Eh, just probably a poor choice of words and evidently not very comforting to her. I think it's really a big nothing and it would probably go away, but he can't let it go.

Which brings up the question - should the widow, or whoever answered her phone, have informed Trump that he was on speakerphone since his call had no intention of being anything but a private phone call? Doesn't mean he would have changed any of his wording but he would have known it was no longer a private call.
There was a casualty officer there who sets up the call. My guess was that the President was trying to call all 4 families that day so it put pressure on the casualty officer to take the call at a really bad time. Should have held off until better circumstances came about.

This is just straight up wrong. Period.

Those in combat acknowledge and understand that we have an all volunteer fighting force that is the most professional and lethal combat machine ever created on this earth. Every single man and woman that raised their hand swore an oath to defend the Constitution since 9/11 understood exactly what they were volunteering for and accepted it. They willingly put themselves in danger.

Out elite soldiers take this understand to a whole other level as well. That is the reason there is a bell that you have to ring to drop out of Seal training, for example. No one is making them endure the hell, all they have to do is ring a bell and they can leave and go get a nice meal and a warm bed. But they don't, they understand what they are signing up for and make the choice to man up and do it, to defend their country and the Constitution.

Trump very simply acknowledged that. The idiots that think this is offensive should go back to wringing their hands in their politically correct corner. These men are from a warrior culture and operate every single day knowing they may be called upon to give the ultimate sacrifice. THEIR FAMILIES KNOW THIS TOO AND LIVE WITH IT EVERY SINGLE DAY.

So please, stop with the "Trump was politically incorrect, or insensitive" bullshite. Trump was paying homage to a warrior's family, it was clearly a sign of honor and respect - that is what Gen. Kelly said as well. Just stop. Shut the frick up and say thank you to a veteran and stop pretending like you have any idea what the correct protocol between warriors in this type of a situation.

Because there is a pattern of gotcha moment's that amount to shite! If the media and dems backed off the bullshite train it would be better for the country as a whole. But libs keep stoking the fire, and Trump keeps pissing on their flames!

Because he has no one in his life to tell him that the shite he says is stupid and rude. And he, therefore, thinks that everything he says is appropriate.

Threads like these are very interesting. There is no way a rational person can look at what happened and blame Trump. Some of our resident lefties have acknowledged the dem congresswoman is way out of line and this is all silly.

Others, like you and kickadawg, make it clear to everyone on here that you have no problem being disingenuous and are only interested in your "team" and having something bad to say about trump.

It's great for trolling...but sadly, I think you simpletons are actually serious.

He damn near verbatim repeated the sames words Obama did in a speech of his. It was plastered on here yesterday. Did you chastise Obama when he said it?

Obama made the speech to living cops.

General Kelly was told those words from his best friend.

Trump tried to relay the same message to a widow in a moving car with a bunch of people around her.

Not his fault, but it is easy to see how the message was not well received. Kelly heard it from his best friend who served in the military. The widow (and others) were hearing it from Trump, someone they likely don't have great affection for and has no way of relating to a military family in grief.

This nonsense over the phone call is liberal, Trump derangement syndrome, similar to the republican derangement syndrome relative to Obama. It seems that when people hate someone politically they become hypersensitive and interpret everything in the negative.

As a point of clarification, the Soldier at the center of this controversy was assigned to a Special Forces unit in a support role. He was not a green beret.

Another good observation. I hadn’t thought of that. Does this officer have any input on timing?? Or circumstances (speakerphone or makeup of audience).

If you are serving as a Casuatly Assistance Officer or NCO, you have had extensive training but have probably little to no experience. It is a lengthy process to guide a grieving family through the loss of a loved one. You do your best to carefully navigate through any potentially painful incidents. But you are not perfect.
