A funny thing happened in five states on election night. In Alaska, Arkansas, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota, a majority of voters surveyed their choices of candidates and ballot initiatives, and chose a Republican candidate along with a liberal position on a ballot initiative.

Alaska elected a Republican senator and passed a recreational marijuana initiative, along with an increase in the minimum wage. North Dakota elected a Republican congressman and rejected a Personhood amendment. Arkansas, Nebraska, and South Dakota elected a Republican senator and governor, and passed a minimum wage increase. This led Zachary Goldfarb to write: “Americans will vote for Republicans even though they disagree with them on everything.”

My research suggests a key reason why this happened: our partisan identities motivate us far more powerfully than our views about issues. Although voters may insist in the importance of their values and ideologies, they actually care less about policy and more that their team wins.

It was pretty disheartening to see so many voters approve of price controls on labor.

That, or they were voting against the train wreck called Obama care.

Does that change the validity of the results or something? Does that make the reality of a GOP congress less real or something?

His post answer doesn't even make the slightest bit of sense in the context of the OP's question, which is actually very much worth considering.

Then he adds the "/thread" thing.

I think people are voting against democrats and not necessarily for republicans. When this current group of republicans fails to do anything worthwhile, and possibly even make things worse, people will vote against them in a future election.

You have such a warped idea of what this board is like.

Try reading this board's view on drugs, on gay marriage, on civil liberties. Then come back and defend your moonbat assertion that this board is full of "GOP Cheerleaders".

Dude, Rex of all people got banned from DU for being too conservative. That is a whole other level of crazy. TD isn't big enough of a crazy pussy to resort to that shite.

You would experience the same fate as well there.

In Ak, it had already been passed by the legislature. What's even more strange, Dems voted against it and Republicans supported it. The initiative was to ensure it couldn't be repealed in a year LINK

Of course the article finds a way to bash Republicans no matter what they do.

I've been posting here for 8 years at this point. I have a perfect understanding of what this board is about.

I could give a shite about what political "team" wins. I want the government out of my life. I want responsible people in office who will actually represent the interests of their voters. We need a balanced budget amendment and the destruction of the patriot act. I care about civil liberties and freedom. frick these politicians that see themselves as the ruling class.

Are you asserting that you aren't guilty of this also?
