This thread seems to be an appropriate place for a well deserved "Happy Birthday to our U.S. Navy".

October 13, 1775 - The Continental Congress votes for two vessels to be fitted out and armed with 10 carriage guns, a proportional number of swivel guns, and crews of 80 then sent out on a cruise of three months to intercept transports carrying munitions and stores to the British army in America. This legislation, out of which the Continental Navy grew, constitutes the birth of the U.S. Navy.

Veterans give up a significant portion of their lives in service to country. Their leadership skills are way above average and they understand how to work with a team to accomplish the mission. And they hate to lose. All of these attributes make for an attractive candidate.

Military service should be a requirement to vote or hold office.

Most vets are patriots
In an era of trashy arse libs being so anti American
Being a patriot still does mean something to real Americans
Vets, except for a few shitty democrats in there for sex change operations or to escape the hood, are patriots.
Shitty little socialist libs would not understand that.

For most of human history it was assumed that being a warrior and military leader was a prerequisite for political leadership.

I'm sorry you hold your manhood so cheaply.

No need to melt, though. You think illegals and the deceased should be able to vote, and I think only veterans should be able to vote. Just different views on our election process.

Everything else being relatively equal then being a vet would be an edge. Since most of them have been tested in ways folks who didn't serve would never be exposed too. In the past the training was a very humbling experience to say the least. And for the most part it never leaves a person.

I'll agree, provided military service is made compulsory for all citizens.

Let me start by saying I am not a vet but my respect for them is extremely high. They have been through an experience that I have not. I value highly their experience and their sacrifice. They have placed all they have to give on the line for you, the typical citizen. All you have to do is get up and live your life, never in fear of having your life and family taken from you by an opposing force. They have provided you that opportunity. Now listen very carefully. If any of this has to be explained to you selfish fricken idiots then you aren’t much of a damn citizen. They are no different intellectually than the rest of the population, but I always respect their opinion, regardless if it’s similar to mine or not. It pays to listen to all viewpoints to make an accurate assessment in life. Try it!!!

For those who don't abuse it, it's a big deal.

For those who are veterans that embellish and/or (worse) LIE about service, it makes their lies that much worse.

Example: Dickhead Blumenthal is a piece of shite even though he's a veteran.

Example 2: I respect the fact that Tammy Duckworth is a veteran, but that doesn't exempt her from criticism about her stupid political views.

This started when he had a draft so serving was more of a sacrifice and not a career choice like it is today.

Why? So politicians could have bigger armies risking their lives to make them and their friends richer? How can this seem like a good idea?
