Soon enough this part of the discussion will evolve. SG has enough gross signatures for a vote, now. They are working on a buffer.

Actually, no. It wasn't until July that 17k+ were acquired. I think 18k+ wasn't until mid August.

I suggested they turn in what they had last spring, but that had nothing to do with the count, but rather strategy. After the registrar verifies the #, SG gets 60 days to collect more, if needed.

2) The "city-parish" form of government is so confusing and convuluted that it allows the city to be run off of money that is raised outside city limits, and allowing SG to form will take away that money that is being used for city, not parish, services.

It was much more confusing back in the days before the city parish consolidated form of government was approved by a majority vote of all the voters in EBR Parish. In those days there was 1) a city council and 2) a parish council. There were literally two separate meetings of almost the same people with issues causing much grief over who got what when it came to budget time. Some members of the council represented areas within the city limits and also some areas outside the city limits. They sat on both councils.

There was also the issue of a duplication of services by departments who would only work inside the city vs outside the city, such as DPW. DPW could have persons overworked with a huge backlog of projects in the parish but under utilized in the city (or the other way around) but they could not cross over the city limit line due to the cost allocation of budget issues involved since each area had its own budget passed by its own council. It was stupid.

Of course, because a super majority of the voters in EBR parish lived within the BR city limits, the reality was the city council pretty much called all the shots.

The voters from outside the city felt slighted. (Sound familiar?)

So the mayor-president at that time, who was not a resident of Baton Rouge but came from the unincorporated part of the parish, formed a group who came up with the idea of a consolidated city parish council with consolidated accounting, taxation and budgeting.

Whether EBR needs to go back to what it had before might be an appropriate discussion.

Until then, maybe you could give those of us who don't answer the door when you ring our doorbell and stand there earnestly while I eat my guac and chips awkwardly refusing to make eye contact, a break? You guys are getting worse than those Jehovah's Witness people. *stalker

I'm not denying your Civil Rights because you can't get your bad idea on the ballot.

Actually he started a thread on May 9 with a link that said the petition was going to be submitted in a few days since they almost had the number of signatures they needed back then. And by submitting the petition before the council voted to annex the Mall of Louisiana, all future annexations would be stopped until after the SG vote and they still had 60 more days to get the needed number of signatures.

He was wrong then and he's still wrong. Pretty much assume whatever he posts is a lie.

If the racism was directed at you instead of in your favor, would you care then?

Yes I do.

How is that relevant to your lie in your May 9 thread?

Stop lying.

I finally broke down. It was awkward. But in all seriousness, I appreciate that they did not urinate in my bushes after I quizzed them for facts and opinions.

That statement is nowhere in the thread you started on May 9. Once again you're lying and this time you're lying about something you didn't write.

Stop lying.

Do you even read your OWN posts? Should does not mean could, or would. But, I'd love you to quote where I said we were turning them in. Go ahead.

Now, about those BRPD patrols in SG. We are all anxiously awaiting.

Since I don't live in SG I don't get the door knockers. But I do frequent a shopping cener in the SG area where they've had their mercenaries set up with tables asking for signatures.

As I passed one of their tables last Spring, the clueless lady manning (womaning??) the table asked me, "Would you like to sign a petition so we can get better schools?" I said, "Sure, I always want better schools." She never asked me where I lived nor did she ask me for ID.

So I read the paper she handed me and it was the incorporation petition. Nowhere on it did it mention schools. So I pointed that fact out to the lady at the table. She got very defensive and started telling me about how awful the schools are in EBR.

I asked her again about her statement that the petition was for better schools when there was nothing about schools on the petition description. I just wanted to see how far she would go lying about the purpose of the petition she was asking me to sign.

By that time all she wanted me to do was sign her petition and go away so I signed her petition ("Mick Mouse, 1234 Cinderella Lane"), which she never even looked at while I was there because as I was signing it she had turned to ask another person passing by, "Would like to sign a petition so we can get better schools?"

That experience alone tells me they are resorting to fraud in their attempt to secure the number of signatures they need. And it also tells me they probably have collected a lot of signatures that will be thrown out in the certification process.

Btw, I've signed their petition 2 more times since then at that same shopping center when other clueless people used the same tactic on me and I used the same tactic on them.

And I've been rejected 3 times from signing when different SG workers actually asked me if I lived in St George and I answered truthfully that I don't.

But I KNOW there are at least three signatures that will be thrown out during the certification process.
