Having *everything* covered by a collective contribution is disastrous, as it severely disrupts price indices and communication between consumers and providers, but a basic level of preventative, GP care provided by a corps of public health professionals (who agree to do that shitty work in exchange for reduced or free medical school) would work a lot better than some bumblefrick going to the ER for a cold or stubbed finger.

Yes.

You don't understand economics . . . any of it.

Singapore has a good system but there are more people in South Louisiana than in Singapore.

Yeah, I just want to know my tax rate, and how many bypasses and heart valves I can get under this plan?

The aforementioned problems I mentioned before includes a downsizing of our political entities.

They may fear the backlash from the working class who still vote democrat . Plus they can't get it passed now because the republicans will never allow it . Obamacare is part of the reason Trump won the election.

Putting commercial health insurers out of business, telling every person on employer-based coverage they have to give up their current insurance, and the prospect of a large new tax is a helluva combo. ACA was a more practical option.

But polls show that single payor is actually supported by Americans when it is described to them

Yeah, well wait until the insurance lobby starts spending megabucks to run it down like they did under Bill Clinton. For voters, status quo bias is powerful. People are reluctant to give up what they have, even if they have problems with it. Opponents of change can take advantage of that and prevent a change. It may be happening right now with BCRA.

Sometimes, perhaps. But it wasn't even a year ago we did the most "un status quo" thing in American history.

Lots of establishment Dems seem to not be accepting warren's and Bernie's call for the party endorsing single payer as opposed to fixing and mantaining the ACA.

it would be complex and without cooperation difficult to get off the ground.

COMMIE!! WHERE ARE MY PROFITS??

we know you are not interested in really considering alternatives to profiteering by big pharma and won't consider free medical school either.

It's also not some godzilla menace enveloping our economy, either. Profits make up a small fraction of GDP.

It's almost like they are hard to realize and not some guarantee like all the internet socialists would have us believe.

You're endorsing single payer catastrophic?

This forum is a trip, man.

Dependent on other factors, tentatively yes. I am willing to hear other practical solutions. I sure as shite know we're never going to let Jimbo operate an X-ray machine or simple GP without licensure.
