Why do many on the left support the Palestinians over Israel?

If you look at the history, I don’t see how anyone could come to the conclusion that the Palestinians are a victim.

I would say the far left supports the Palestinians, but the mainstream Democratic Party slurps Israel as much as the mainstream Republican Party. The last two Presidential candidates who were expressly opposed to Israeli influence in American politics were Ron Paul and Pat Buchanan, especially Buchanan. That logically made them more sympathetic to the Palestinians.

I think it's an extension of their dislike for the Judeo-Christian tradition.
The Jews returned to Zion in 1947, fulfilling a Biblical prophecy. The fact that such a small nation, with such a small population, has held at bay the Muslim hordes in the ME for 70 years suggests Divine favor.

A good argument could be made that a number of states have more claim than the Jews do. The last truly Jewish state hasnt controlled Jerusalem for 2000+ years.
In the meantime, the Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Crusaders, and Ottomans have controlled that space. They have much more historically relevant claims than the Jewish state does.
It wasnt until Europe decided to really mess up the neighborhood that a Jewish state was pushed.
