We are very much in agreement on the importance of accountability, particularly with respect to the laws and rules of a society. People need to understand the consequences of their actions so that they behave appropriately.

We might disagree at the margins on what those consequences should be when it comes to eternal judgement, but I’ll be the first to admit that I could have it wrong there.

This is a great point. I didn’t mean to imply that determinism is the same thing as fatalism. Just because our choices depend on prior causes doesn’t mean they don’t matter. Our thoughts and choices matter because they lead to specific behaviors that produce outcomes.
