Why did Flynn Lie?

I haven't been following all the Russia stuff close enough to know what all the theories are.
My question is why do you think Flynn felt like he needed to lie to Pence?
From todays press conference:
"He didn't tell the vice president of the United States the facts and then he didn't remember, and that's just not acceptable," Trump told reporters at the White House at his first solo news conference as chief executive.

Flynn is a squirrelly bastard who thought he could more easily get away with shading the truth to Pence than explaining what he actuallly did.

Why would he care about explaining what he actually did? According to Trump and his team, he didn't do anything wrong. Did he just decide to lie for no reason?

For a "fall guy" I'm surprised trump chose the former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency to commit a foul discovered through routine defense intelligence gathering...

My guess is that he knew he had done nothing wrong but wanted to keep is bosses out of it with all the Russia horseshite being peddled not knowing the NSA was running an op on Trump people.

The bigger question is why didn't Trump get upset with him until it got leaked to the press? He'd known for a few weeks that Flynn lied to Pence, yet did nothing.

Listen, idiot: If the Flynn calls had no shady content as has been all but confirmed, the shade goes back to the left and why the shite was leaked when the intelligence gathers knew there was nothing there.
How hard is this to understand?
Dirty intel was gathered and illegally leaked without disclosing that the intel revealed nothing untoward PURELY TO F WITH THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION for political purposes.
How hard is this to figure out?
It's like someone telling you they have a recording of your wife talking to another man and it's not good. Bad things happen when you react and then you find out the recording was her talking to her dentist about a cavity.

The same reason that Obama never *told* Eric Holder not to worry about the evidence of Fast and Furious, that he'd (Obama) would just shut it all down with Exec Privy. He got somebody else to tell Holder.
Answer. Plausible Deniability. Why risk tainting Pence and Trump when taking care of the business you know that Trump wants done. Obama rammed that whole dog and pony Russian hacking *investigation* and the sanctions through, in order to undermine the legitimacy of Trump's win. As was stated earlier, Trump was aware of this weeks ago either he found out through other channels or there was nothing to shield Trump from. But if there was nothing to shield Trump from, why lie to Pence. It just looks strange from the outside.
