Seriously. Why can't we be on good terms? After the war of independence we became buddies with England. After the Mexican American war, buddy buddy with Mexico. Wwi? Wwii? Same shite. We are great friends with the Germans, the Japanese, the Italians. The Japanese BOMBED Pearl Harbor. Yet were on amazing terms with them. The cold war ended over a generation ago. Why is it a bad thing to become friends? Why is the left absolutely petrified of the "red menace" that just 4 years ago was a laughing stock and "not at all a threat". Why the complete 180?

Also, why can't the left and media admit that had there been nothing to leak, no corruption or backroom deals, then the "Russians" would have had absolutely nothing to leak?

Why can't we, as a nation, accept responsibility for the pure corruption that was exposed. But would rather sling shite across the international stage and look like little crying babies? When will this country sack the frick up and cut out the cancer that is corruption?

Because they hacked our election!

Discussing the content of the leaks or covering the transition of power fairly would legitimize the Trump presidency. We can't have that, can we?

Because democrats need a scapegoat and they're mad at Russia for giving up communism.

Because they are unhappy with their present borders and jealous of our economy.

Better question is, "Why can't Russia be friends with us?"

Do you think that Russia is acting in the best interests of the United States? Or has been doing so? Or, that they are even neutral?

Putin is all about his own power and Russian Nationalism. How does that align with America's interests exactly?

Unreal.

It's Absolutely mind numbing that the left has to resort to kindergarten finger pointing.

We're on two different banking blocks.

We represent two different competing economies -- G7's vs Brics, the two paradigms of the world.

"Friends" is a strong word but we can certainly have common interests.

That's a liberal position on the matter so I am glad to welcome all of the new converts.

We can't be friends, but we don't have to be in a Cold War.

American and Russian interests globally for the most part contradict each other. There are some mutually beneficial goals we can work towards together though

I believe that our two countries will come closer together as friends in the coming years. Why? Because it is In both of our best interest.

I think Russia is of course acting in their best interest. Same as us. It is asinine to act in a way that ISN'T in the best interest of yourself. Self preservation works at all levels.

Well, as a leader of a country I'd be suspicious of him if he WASN'T all about his power and the power of his country. If your leader doesn't want to be the best they shouldn't be the leader.

Also, Russia has been a wonderful ally in the past. They saved the Frenchies and British asses in wwi, and had it not been for the grand Russian offensive beginning with the battle of kursk in wwii, well. Let's just say the world would be QUITE different. And there would be a shite ton more German speakers than there are now. Fact is, a war with Russia is a death sentence. Why would you want that? We should come together as two world super powers. It's happened in the past. And it will happen again soon enough.

It's a liberal mindset to distrust Russia?

Russia was never our ally. They were simply trying to survive, so we worked in alignment for a time. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. But, they are not out ally. Patton understood that. Truman understood it. Everyone understood it. Nice revisionist history, though.

Russian culture and society has always been autocratic. That is their culture. They are prone to dictatorships. After the Soviet Union fell, Russia lasted around 9 years until they elected Putin and his autocratic leadership - or, rather, until he took over. It was an aberration. They have no real democratic history or history of free society or institutions. They are not allied with American or Western thought. They are of the East and are an autocratic culture and society and will always be that way, unless there is some kind of fundamental culture change that happens.

This didn't used to be controversial amongst conservatives. I mean, progressives and liberals didn't get it, but conservatives always understood this. Interesting how times have changed.
