Why are the statue removers incognito and wearing military-style clothing?

And why is the name of the company doing this work being kept a secret? You would think this information would be make public since the monuments are government assets being removed with public money. What am I missing here?

They're received death threats.

I don't care for Mitch "Look at Me" Landrieu's decision to remove all four of the monuments, but in view of threats received, I can certainly understand the removal crews not wanting to be identified.

Read in the paper this morning that the removers were wearing bulletproof vests while cops drove around the removal to thwart any mischievous acts.

i in no way support threats against others

but

if public money is being spent, the public should know how that money is being spent and who is receiving it

end of story

You think some poor Joe Blow just trying to get his 40 in should have threats on his life?

That is beyond fricked up. Just what kind of work do you do?

This.

This is not an undercover investigation into organized crime or drugs/gangs. It is an expenditure of public money to carry out a public function at the direction of the Mayor. I do not see how doing this in such a fashion (usually under the cover of darkness) in any way complies with the law.

We all know the company that did the removal is a subsidiary of Ms Piggy Inc.

The people who actually did the work were employees of the NOFD. All the money allocated went back to Mitch and his cronies pockets.

Actually, once you think about it, it's a pretty damn good scheme for some corrupt, pocket-lining activities.

"if public money is being spent, the public should know how that money is being spent and who is receiving it"

I can understand this view and largely share it, but there has to be some balancing with public safety. At a minimum, I have no problem with the workers wearing protective gear and concealing their identities. Concealing the name of the contractor would be more problematic, though I must confess that I don't know if the name of the contractor has been made public.

Start a petition and call the local papers to impeach Mitch's silly race-baiting, corrupt arse before he embarrasses Louisiana even more so; running for POTUS in 2020. Oh and JBE also while your at it.

Is anyone investigating this? Has anyone been arrested in connection with them? It would seem to me, specific death threats of a public official or those acting at his command should be taken pretty seriously, and such individuals should be brought up on charges. It's weird, I haven't heard anything about what sorts of efforts are being taken to bring these people to justice.

The public has a right to know how their money is spent and who received payments from the public treasury.
