Government used to be the standard answer, but corporations now have the power to wipe you off the face of the earth by ruining your livelihood. They can band together and not allow you to have a bank account, deplatform you from having a public voice, and in the recent case of the guy that created the Pelosi video, dox you to threaten your personal safety with the help of social media platforms like Facebook.

Government. Corporations don’t have the legal power to arrest or kill you.

Not necessarily.

Dave Smith is a comedian and has a show called "Legion of Skanks" that he hosts with a couple other comedians. They recently had on Milo and it started the predictable shitstorm. So, when the twitter outrage began, people would tag Dave Smith and Antifa in the tweets because they knew it's basically a threat of violence. Twitter allows violent groups like Antifa to have a platform because they agree with the motives of Antifa. So, in essence, twitter has their own enforcement wing.

Corporations because

A. Nobody elects them

B. They actually control the politicians we do elect

C. They aren't bound by constitutional protections (no First Amendment, etc.)

D. People are addicted to most of the products they produce and would never boycott them because they are sheep

In a seemingly odd move, Zuckerberg asked the government to regulate Facebook. However, he knew he and others in the industry would essentially be the ones writing the legislation so it seems perfectly logical.

The Gov could potentially help you if a big Corp did what you described. A Corp could not do the same if the roles are reversed.

Therefore government

I would say corporations. They are unelected and have big money to throw at congressmen and twist them like pretzels. This makes the government spineless and leaves middle America unrepresented.

Middle America is basically colonized by large East and West coast corporate entities.

This is especially the case in regards to Media.

Corporations because money talks and bullshite walks. Sure, each of them needs the other for necessary things, but in my mind money will always trump power in the hierarchy. Thus corps are the apex predator.

I was just thinking about that. Even going all the way back to the caveman....once the semblance of a system of currency and value was established was it the meanest guy who could exert the most authority who reigned supreme or was it the "richest" guy? I say richest guy bc he'd simply hire a group of mercenaries to take care of meanest guy.

They go hand in hand. You cannot have big government without big business and you cannot have big business without big government. A true free market is the only way you can eliminate wealth gaps.

Govt's necessarily the conduit, but are most of the threats to liberties originated by govt, or set into motion by corporate will/influence?
