the hypocrisy makes the republican sex romps really funny, but other than Sanford it's hard for me to tell that story to a group of people and make it interesting

Republicans perch themselves pretty high, so the falls seems worse. And everyone loves to see a person squirm in their own hypocrisy.
Democrats set the bar low personally so folks aren't that disappointed.
