Missed the republican part

Would Romney have had a shot in 08 or was there no stopping the Hope and Change train?

Clearly the answer is Trump.

McCain ties Bob Dole
Dole was absolutely awful.

For sheer lack of effort, Willard.

Dole was pretty bad as well. The election was never in doubt and he ran an aenemic campaign. In his convention speech, he said he was a "bridge to the past" which was a high hanging curveball... Clinton of course said well, I'm a bridge to the future.

McCain gave us Palin. Unforgivable even though it reignited Lisa Ann's career.

Romney would've been a far better candidate in 08. We nominated McCain based on the surge and when the bubble popped, he had no clue what he was talking about with the economy. I think Romney could've cleaned up.

No, there was no chance the Democrat candidate would have lost. Hindsight opinion: 2008 should have been Hillary's turn before she got old, frail, and corrupt. And 2016 should have been Obama's turn to enter the stage.

the black voters made Obama formidable, no question. I don't think anyone could've beaten him...but I think some could've done better than McCain, Romney being one of them

actually tougher to run against an incumbent which Romney did, and fared better than McCain

McCain is the only reason people think NC is a swing state.

Dole and McCain are about even. In both cases the Republicans knew they had no chance of winning and just nominated them as retirement gifts for their decades of service to the party. Unfortunately McCain didn't retire like he should have.
