This works out to 865 pictures a day. Every single day 7/365 for 8 years.
Take off for Obama's personal time in the White House residence and this means the shutter was snapping every few seconds for 8 years.
This would absolutely drive insane anyone not afflicted with malignant narcissism.

I have a cousin who is a photographer. He said it takes about 100,000 shots to get a marketable image. 2 million over 8 years doesn't seem like all that much.

Most professional photographers taking pictures of people don't snap individual pictures; they set the camera on burst and take dozens at a time to make sure they get as close to the perfect shot as possible. So, the "every few seconds" bit is probably off base.
With that said, that's still a frickton of pictures.

It's different with digital photography. I do photography as part of my job and as a hobby. On any shoot, I can reel off hundreds of snaps in no time, and don't even use rapid-fire shutter.
In the old days, with film, you had to be very selective and very lucky to get good shots. With digital, you benefit by firing off as many shots as you can, adjusting the settings the whole time, because you never know what the lens is seeing that the eye might not be.
