Where have we gone as a country when we start trying to control beliefs?

This latest hit on "Fixer Upper" stars Chip and Joanna Gaines just gets me, and it illustrates for anyone with eyes to see just how rancid this country has gotten when they can be shamed for their beliefs, even when they have yet to say anything about it, and since their preacher is preaching from the bible regarding homosexuality. Preachers usually do that BTW. I mean, it is kind of what they do.
Seems to me we elected a President who went to a church who's pastor taught that which isn't in scripture whatsoever when he said G** Damn America, and the majority of the same media had not one problem with that, but when a preacher actually says what's in scripture about homosexuality, they come unglued.
At what point did this country go from liberty to captivity, from embracing diversity to damning it, and from free speech and religious freedom to making war upon people who dare to have an opinion the elitists don't share anymore? When do the book burnings begin?
I guess I'll never ever be acceptant of this, simply because I believe it is polar opposite to what this country was founded upon.
What does it really matter what a couple of people on an HGTV home improvement show think about homosexuality or gay marriage, especially when they've never even brought it up? What power do they wield here that presents a threat to gay people or gay marriage?
I don't get this.

I'm cynical. HGTV got this story published to increase ratings.

It's like a terminal illness and the left is the disease.

The lead pastor at my church here in Seattle was a pastor at Antioch in Waco and a Baylor grad and knows the Gaines family real well. Going to try and ask him about this when I go to church here in a bit.

Pretty sure that if they believe in scripture then they probably believe what scripture says on the matter.
My point is, SO WHAT? What does it matter?

Maybe they don't believe in wearing white after Labor Day either but that probably wouldn't get any press.

The gays and the Christian bakers is a prime example.
The state actually compelling people to violate their conscience is horrifying.
It means that we no longer have freedom of conscience and that it is being replaced by the state's orthodoxy.

The left is basically the closest thing we have to an actual thought police. Disagree with them in any way, even if you've never explicitly stated these opinions yourself? Be prepared to be called sexist, racist, homophobe, misogynist, and all those other buzzwords they like to use.

It's very Orwellian to be sure. You just cannot escape the similarities.

I'm not sure a Buzzfeed article that has been widely denounced even by many homosexuals warrants such a dissertation.

It's funny because as an atheist, this shite scares the frick out of me.
Humans are funny creatures. A tool invented rarely gets forgotten.
The idiots who often end up on the "winning" side of this shite should probably remember that nothing is permanent and once you accept that people should be destroyed simply for their ideas, there's no rule that says it will always be the same ideas that get you destroyed

And well it should, and for exactly the reasoning you described. It's fundamentally incompatible with a free society as America in every sense. The spirit behind it is the complete opposite of what guided this country to greatness. Trouble is, I don't think this generation of Americans value principles anymore as much as they do what they want and at whatever it costs to get there.

Again, even many on the left have denounced this as an unwarranted hit piece and "tabloid nonsense on a slow news day".
Not to mention it's from Buzzfeed. BUZZFEED. This isn't the AP or Time here people. Get a grip.

There is a clear anti white and anti everything culturally white or religious agenda from the Soroses of the world. All the tv conglomerates are HARD sold on ridding our country of it.

So it's cool, because Buzzfeed sucks? Really?
And now Buzzfeed has said they won't relent and will continue to push the story until they have a gay couple on the show.
