Maybe other "libs" have argued otherwise, but no one in this thread is saying that speech should be restricted outright. The argument is over the nuance of whether a speaker has the right to a specific platform to deliver a speech on public property. If it is an institution's policy to grant such a platform/venue to anyone, then that cannot be a point of discrimination. However if it is not, then it is not necessary to roll out a red carpet for anyone with an opinion or two. That's why LSU has a place like free speech alley.

I'm glad someone understood my point.

Look me up if you're ever in Dallas. I'm buying you a beer.

Does the first amendment give him a constitutional right to an auditorium?

They are guaranteed the auditorium if the speaker is following a policy to reserve the auditorium. This may include an on campus sponsor, a fee of some sort, etc.

You can't decide that one person can reserve the auditorium over another based on the message. You also can't do it by pretending it's based on safety.

Many of us have been saying this the entire time but for some reason others want to rant about homeless people speaking at LSU and other random shite.

Nice. I like Paul Baier. His daughter Erika was (and probably still is) a cutie.

I can't do all this justice, as it were, on my phone. Let me get a few drinks in me and maybe I'll regale y'all from my computer later this evening if I'm bored.

Actually I really don't care.

Obviously, no serious poster on here thinks the First Amendment grants anyone a "right to be heard," so the very premise of the OP is a straw man.

If we want to have a serious talk about a culture of free speech and expression and how even some types of censorship that don't necessarily invoke the First Amendment can be inimical to a free society (and have a chilling effect that can in turn--and in a cycle-- affect judicial, executive and legislative interpretation and application of the First Amendment), then I'll be back.

But from the few posts I've read, I don't think that's the case.

ETA: looks like moneyg et al. are all over it--including the uniform-application (which can in some cases involve due process/EP) issue.
