Confederate statues are coming down, not the statues of all former slave owners.

So the monuments of people that mostly didnt own slaves and fought for their home state. (In a time where state was more important than country) but the people that owned and actually in some cases abused slaves is off limits?

It's still up and that NYC protest happened almost a year ago.

So slave owners are okay with people protesting slave owners?

We've had buildings renamed and statues removed because of their ownership of slaves. It's not just confederate generals.

Yep. If I wasn't instructed otherwise by the geniuses on this board, I'd say this whole faux racism thing was simply propaganda meant to further divide and distract.

Happened in October of 2016 and it's still standing. People can whine all they want, but the presidents are untouchable. Yes, even Andrew Jackson. He isn't going anywhere

You really think that's where this will stop?

And besides, many Condederate soldiers and generals didn't care for slavery but were forced to choose between fighting for or against their own state. Should their statues come down too?

Hmmm... seems a bit hypocritical don't ya think? I mean, in NC, they were desecrating a statue that honored confederate soldiers. Very few confederate soldiers were slave owners.

So let's see you contort your way out of this one.

The Law of Merited Impossibility:

It will never happen, you conservatives are over reacting, but when it does, well, dammit, you bigots deserve it.

So right now it's the statues of all of the Confederates(why I don't know - England never forced Scotland to remove a statue of William Wallace), but they will be going after former slave holders next ....they have already telegraphed it.....Sharpton "the Brooklyn Tax Dodger" has already said he would like the Jefferson Memorial to come down .....and in NOLA, Malcolm "the outsider" Suber wants the statue of Andrew Jackson to come down.

Afghani patriots remove icon of ancient bourgeois prince who also became a false god.

Patriots in the Levant destroy ancient symbols of the slave loving and despotic Assyrian Empire.

American SJW's tear down statue of evil Confederate soldier who wanted to defend NC against the Union army.

All of these patriots should be cheered for removing these oppresive symbols of racism, slavery, classism and the patriarchy, am I right progs?

What you neo reb/nazis are not getting is context.

When George Washington held slaves the swell of opinion and action against human slavery had not begun. Great Britain outlawed the slave trade in 1833. The Czar freed the serfs in 1861.

A 1907 painting by Boris Kustodiev depicting Russian serfs listening to the proclamation of the Emancipation Manifesto in 1861

The Secesh had to be dragged screaming and kicking into a more modern world.

That is why their monuments should be removed.

Washington didn't commit treason, nor is he honored for killing Americans in defense of the institution of slavery.

Confederacy - Enemy of the country who killed hundreds of thousands in an effort to keep slavery.

No twisting necessary.

I'm sure the British Crown thought otherwise.
