I keep seeing reports that DJT has terribly mishandled the whole ordeal with Coronavirus. Is this more fake news or have I missed something? The immediate travel ban, which undoubtedly saved lives, led to him be branded a racist (again). Someone clue me into what he has done wrong.

I think a lot of the messaging was a little misleading at first but I think Trump was truly playing it down to prevent panic.

his only mistake was downplaying it early on, speaking out of his butt about "heat will probably make it go away"......those kind of casual comments were a mistake (but that's Trump sometimes), even though he was the first world leader to put a ban on travelers from China coming in...

He didn't set his hair on fire and go on live TV screaming hysterically that we are all going to die when first learning of the impending pandemic.

Supposedly some dipshit report about a simulation ran last year that was dismissed. Will look for “credible link.” Credible meaning some soyboy site on a soapbox crying

ETA: NYTimes
That scenario, code-named “Crimson Contagion” and imagining an influenza pandemic, was simulated by the Trump administration’s Department of Health and Human Services in a series of exercises that ran from last January to August.

The simulation’s sobering results — contained in a draft report dated October 2019 that has not previously been reported — drove home just how underfunded, underprepared and uncoordinated the federal government would be for a life-or-death battle with a virus for which no treatment existed

Listening to Fauci who is a part of the Clintonistas, publicly praising Hildabeast after her Benghazi testimony, and probably leading Trump down the garden path.

The only mistake I feel is not putting the media in its place sooner.

only mistake he has made so far that I see is he has known there is a 100% cure for corona and he should be holding 3 news conferences a day telling everyone about this because the MSM is still denying there is a cure to continue spreading fear

let everyone know in clear language there is a cure and pharmacies are working overtime to make it. that alone would ease most of the panic to let people know you might get infected but its 100% cureable

I understand why he did it but his messaging in the first few days was way to Rosey. He had to have been given the same forecast that made senators sell all their stock. He should know he wasn't going to stop a mass sell off with his press briefings.

1) He's a Republican
2) He listened to the always failing CDC
3) After that, all good, thus the move by the left to his PC nonsense.

I expect downvotes but I'll share my thoughts. I don't think Trump displays leadership through unity. If ever there was a time we'd see it, it'd be now. Love him or hate him though, that's just not his style and you're asking a 73 year old man to be something he isn't.

Trump rallies his troops... those who are behind him, against a real or perceived enemy. In this case, the Chinese and the media (he's surprisingly taken it easy on Democrats). That's just his style, its always an us vs. them mindset. Winners vs losers. Get on board or frick off.

Is it the right leadership style for a national crisis? I don't know. It's certainly not typical but Trump will be Trump.

I love Trump but I hate the response from him and pretty much every world leader. It's a race to one-up each other with increasingly tight restrictions that freeze civilization in its place. I get that as a leader you can't possibly go up there and say anything that would suggest that you won't do everything in your power to leave nobody behind, even if it means completely tanking the economy.

Just a shite situation all around.

I give Trump props for two things: shutting down travel to China early, and letting states handle things on their own. I'm pretty opposed to everything else. But I know full well that virtually every world leader is spouting the same crap right now so whatcha gonna do.

Not using his jobs magic wand to make masks, gloves and ventilators appear.

Being too positive, instead of donning sackcloth and playing dirges during his newsconferences.

Not saying I agree necessarily, but most would mention:
1. Lack of testing kits up front to potentially suppress virus from reaching community spread status. This is probably more on the CDC, which had mission drift before Trump was in office. But, at the end of the day, Trump is the chief executive and he has to be responsible for what government agencies do.
2. Trump saying Trump things like "we think the virus cases will go from 15 to 0". He would have been better off not throwing remarks like that out there, especially once it became clear we had community spread in the US.
