I have heard this numerous times: "Trump is befriending that murderer. Disgusting."

What crimes did Putin commit and where is the evidence for it? Or is this just classic leftist hyperbole?

Given his career in a past life it's hard to imagine he didn't dust some folks for the motherland.

Kind of like saying you couldn't say the same for an enforcer of the mafia.

Read Putin's Labyrinth by Steve Levine.

Putin's Labyrinth

He details the individuals Putin has ordered killed.

ETA: Also, here is a news article about one of Putin's victims.

Yeah. For all the people that (rightfully) call out "Marxism," it's strange when many of those same people seem to have a strangely positive view of a corrupt authoritarian who was a high ranking KGB agent in the COMMUNIST Soviet Union.

All we know is what American media tells us about Putin. Thankfully they have a perfect track record reporting objectively and honestly with zero bias.

He's a hyper-nationalist who openly espouses his hatred of Muslims, gays and those who refuse to assimilate into Russian society. He also has a "tough guy" image.

These traits appeal to many on the right who see him as a stark contrast to the perceived politically correct weakness of our current President.

On the one hand, if the shite ever really hits the fan he'll be a valuable ally against Islam. On the other, he stands in direct conflict with many of the freedoms we (claim to) value.

It's true. Putin is a former KGB leader and head of state. he has probably ordered thr murder of thousands. Just like Barry Obama has. Just like all heads of state do.

The only hypocrisy here is the near universal denial that all heads of state order murders.

I do not believe most americans value freedom of speech, religion, or association. At least for others. They value it for themselves.

In my lifetime they were never really the enemy, especially when Boris Yeltsin was their president.

I'm sure Putin has blood on his hands either directly or indirectly. However, so does "rational actor" Iran by their funding of proxy wars and Saudi kings with their multiple wives and atrocious human rights violations.

What should concern everyone is the Russian demographic problem. If memory serves, the regions with Russian populations are dying off and not reproducing. Meanwhile the more Islamic regions of the Russian Federation are not having that problem. It won't happen over night but Russia too could face its own issues.

Which is why he was at the opening of the largest mosque in Moscow along with Erdogan and Mahmoud Abbas in 2015. He also funded a large mosque in Grozny based on the Blue Mosque (I think) in Istanbul.

People have made up a hatred of Muslims because they want him to hate Muslims. Some of his inner circle, like Alisher Usmanov, the General Director of Gazprom's holding company and one of the richest men in the world, are Muslim.
Putin doesn't hate Muslims at all. He's closer to the Iranians than he has ever been.

Putin is the shot caller. Most US presidents have done the same sort of thing.
