frick off. Us taxpayers are extremely needy. I need a new 4 wheeler and that badass turkey deep fryer at Costco. All poor people need is to get a job

Because we pay most of the taxes.

Forget about the debt, focus on future spending

We should think less about the timing of taxes (which determines debt) and more about how much the government spends now and in the future, what that spending is for and how to best collect taxes to pay for that spending (which are independent of debt).

Voted for Obama.
He increased the debt by $10 trillion.
Now worried about paying it back.

Americans want to cut spending, but want their government to help them more. They want to pay down the debt, but we got to have a war with North Korea and them terrorists are on every corner, so we got to spend double on the military.

If the American public had a semblance of a brain, we wouldn't elect the same politicians from the same two parties who, despite their statements, still spend us into oblivion. The American public simply doesn't care. Leave it for their grandkids to worry about, and that's criminal imo.

My point is most Americans will tell you they want to cut spending, but many are too stupid to realize you can't do that if cuts to disability payments, Medicare, Medicaid and the military are off limits.

Study political economic theory, including reaganomics (trickle down economics). Businesses get tax breaks, hire more and pay more. That infuses money into the micro economy and grows the tax base.

In theory.

What the hell are you talking about? Total Defense spending for FY2017 increased by only 21B from FY2016. It trails far beyond Medicare/caid and Social Security.

I think the parties disagree on this . Republicans would want to cut down entitlements and use the money to build the military. Democrats seem to want to cut money from the military to fund entitlements.

Are we talking about real people or politicians? I think 95+% of real everyday republicans want to see entitlements reduced or eliminated. Most dont give a rats arse about spending more money on the military
