Read the history of the Southern Baptist Convention. Leadership like that led to a big takeover of the denomination by conservatives who were offended by their leadership straying from scripture. By 1979, liberal baptist like this started being purged from leadership positions because of their views. This is just a political hit piece to paint Southern Baptists with the broad brush that the left paints all Christians with.

Nice try at deflection, W.A. Criswell, quoted in the article, was in no way, shape, or form a liberal. He was one of the architects of the conservative takeover of the SBC, and is still revered by the conservative SBC leadership. That is the guy who was in favor of Roe v Wade in 1979, at the same time he was plotting the conservative takeover of the SBC.

Southern Baptists are a shepherdless flock who will move from whim to whim based on what benefits their coffers. The rise of the religious right was nothing more than an attempt to get power and money which was successful.

They backed FDR and the New Deal and then switched through time to the conservative movement due to increasing social and economic and political equality by minorities and women.

And also those turning from sound doctrine to fables.

Baptist doctrine didn't exist for the first 1700 years after Christ.

If Christianity is true, then it isn't the Baptists who have it right.

Embarrassing post even for you.

You don't have to agree with them on school prayer or abortion, but their positions on those issues have nothing to do with civil rights. Nothing.

Which doctrines are those? The doctrines may have existed even though Baptists didn't if you get my drift.

And Baptists date back to around 1609 with the English Separatists and the General and (later) Particular Baptists. So its more like 1600 years.
