I know the Republicans won but were these two of the seats the democrats thought they would win to get majority in the house?

The democrats went all out, and threw the kitchen sink and $30M on the GA-06 election. The DNC demanded something to cheer about. The republicans slept walk and beat them.

The country grows more Red by the day..

I'm not aware of any Democrats presuming victory, and I imagine none gave more than a slim hope of winning the SC election.

The Georgia one... I know plenty of people that hoped to win, but pretty much considered it an uphill battle. It was solidly in Trump's favor during the presidential election.

That's my own personal observations from friends that I know that still live in Atlanta. So, more first hand, less anecdotal.

Trump won this district by 1% point.
The Republican won by 6% points last night.

His margin of victory in that district was 1.5% in the general. Would definitely not call that 'solid'

Well, that's not even accurate.

In Georgia:
The Democratic campaign raised a lot more, true, but independent groups spent 10.6 million more on the Republican candidate than were spent on the Democratic one.

My bad. I was looking at two different districts and got them mixed up. My mistake for reading that early in the morning before my coffee.

They felt like they could win in Georgia. They put all their money and eggs in that one basket and it backfired.

Are these two of the seats that they counted as wins when figuring a way to take back the house or are there seats that they know they will win that will be an easier path to control?

Slept walk by throwing $25 million at it.

Pretty sure by the time the election came around they were. Polls showed thye had a solid lead.

At the start, they did consider it an uphill battle. however, after the Jungle round, they got really confident and started pouring millions into the campaign. They were getting very, very confident.

They thought they had GA. Their polls looked good, bad opponent, and they made it the most expensive House race in history. They also thought they had a superior turnout plan while Repubs were uninspired.

Republicans won this exact seat by over 20 points in November. The fact that the race was competitive is a bad sign for the GOP

Wow! I didn't realize they put that much money into it. They apparently felt they were in trouble. I thought Ossoff had a shot. I'm glad he was beaten. His adds were really getting on my nerves!
I didn't see nearly as many for Handel.

Handel is a bad politician....it's a miracle she found somebody she could beat.

5 Special elections down and 5 won. After 4 of them I saw Dems making this exact same comment.

They spent 25.8 million (18.2 for the Republican, 7.6 for the Democrat).

Perhaps I worded my statement a bit confusingly; if so, my bad.

Somehow this gets lost.

I would not be gloating if I was a Republican when they had to spend that much to hang on to a seat by <5 points that is normally won by an average of 35 points.

If anything close to this swing holds for Dems in 2018....

Have you got a link for that? I keep seeing and hearing different things. I heard the Dems spent $30 Million and you said the GOP spent $25 Million....I just read an article that said it was $25 Million combined!

I am beginning to think nobody knows how much went into the election.
