The state of Louisiana with its paltry populous of under five million people is in the lead of prescribing drugs for ADHD for its children over all other states with a larger populous residing in them. There is a real term for the money received from the feds "crazy money" which gives a boost to the welfare for money month for welfare money recieved.

Same thing nationally. Poor people have kids for this reason. Also, to receive this money, tell their kids to act crazy and unruly to increase documentation. This includes poor school behavior, acting a fool in public and when social services arrive, low grades, etc.

ADD is a mechanism to suppress/attack typical adolescent male behavior. Camille Paglia and Christian Hoff Sommers have written extensively about this.

ADHD exists, it's just absurdly over diagnosed. Doctors who routinely diagnose it are looked down upon because it's generally considered a lazy diagnosis that ignores psychological/pathological/behavioral problems.

I've only seen two kids with genuine, accurately diagnosed ADHD and once you've seen the real thing you laugh at all the parents who claim their "hyper" kid has it. There is no mistaking the real thing.

I'm a third year medical student. Im actually on a psych rotation right now

Kids who truly have ADHD, based on my experience and the knowledge absorbed from experienced physicians, arent just "hyper". They can barely carry a conversation when not medicated. They cant sit still for more than 5-10 seconds and only hear about a third of what you say. They jump from one activity to next and have no concern for complete or finishing something before moving on.

They, very literally, cannot function without medication.

How do you feel about the rate in Louisiana? I feel like I saw this coming as so many people I went to lsu with we're taking adderal. Everyone was saying they were ADD. I was there years ago so it seems like these people are parents now.

My favorite ADHD joke is the picture of the belt that says "the original ADHD medicine"

I have it, and found it extremely funny how over diagnosed it has been in the past fifteen years. I know for a fact that some of my family and friends do not have it, yet are still prescribed daily meds.

FWIW, being hyper isn't one of my symptoms, so don't take that as a standard for diagnosis. A good example is when I take tests. When I am not on Adderall, any little small noise(maybe someone breathing) will basically turn my brain off, and I cannot get going back with the test. I am done at that point, and might as well turn it in right there.

I was diagnosed when Ritalin came out, not when it started to be the go-to cause of kids being bad. Ritalin was worse coming down off of than a 2 day hangover. I would be sick at the end of the day

Government officials are idiots. One of the main reasons is for 10 yrs there has been a system where adults get "diagnosed" just to get adderol and use it like a drug. Depending on the dosage, the go for up to 10-15 per pill on the street.

They aren't even that expensive during exams, so I don't know where you are pulling those numbers from

A 30mg Adderall goes for $5 all day when finals hit. Stupid people pay $10. No one pays $15
