Way before my time, tell me about Dave Treen as LA governor?

TIA

Just saw posters of his in an old LA oddball museum. Never heard of him previously.

I have very clear memories as a kid of campaigning for Treen with my parents

to best of my knowledge, he was pretty lackluster and really just an alternative to Edwards. The Reagan democrats coupled with Uncle Eddie's shady dealings made his vanilla approachable

I was too young to remember his governorship. All I know is that he was sandwiched in between two of Edwards' terms and I believe the first Republican governor of Louisiana since Reconstruction. We had mutual family friends and crossed paths on a few occasions; he was a nice enough fellow but I never got into any kind of discussion about his term. I also know he liked to shop at Rouses in Mandeviile. lol

Do they still teach Louisiana History in 8th grade? I wouldn't necessarily expect someone to be familiar with all the governors, but the name ought to at least ring a bell.

Don't remember much, but he came and spoke at my school in middle school.

Dave Treen, Sonny Mouton, Louis Lambert, Jimmy Fitzmorris, Paul Hardy ran that year, if I recall. Treen won in an improbable squeaker over Louis Lambert of Gonzales.

compared to our past governors which was not necessarily a bad thing.

He was the Mike Pence of Louisiana. Bland. Not very exciting.

Yeah his wife's name was Dodi and he was a Tulane guy. He was vanilla, and squeaky clean in contrast to EWE, thus his appeal. It was rather shocking that a Republican won, that's all I remember really.

I was looking at Treen's Wiki page and it mentioned that in 1900 47% of the pop in LA was black

today it's 32%

That was some Northern migration... I once read that in 1950 half the blacks in Chicago had been born in MS

If you think Southern politics are fun now, can you imagine if this migration had never taken place?

Adequate, no drama, was right for the time and the EWE hangover.
