Well frick man (to quote you) read my full post you partly quoted. I said specifically my region and then in multiple post mentioned Arkansas.
I read all that, but you're in here acting like Walmart is a great company because they built up your community. They don't do shite for thousands of communities around the country other than carpet-bomb the area with smaller Walmarts before consolidating to a larger supercenter once they put the local competition out of business.

And they made the lower and middle class buying power more. But hey let’s forget that because you hate how they do things. I mean I bet you’re happy theyve kept prices of goods pretty stagnant (especially in electronics) while also allowing you to get multiple goods and services in one place.

I bet you also complain about unions also

If Walmart was so evil and wrong they wouldn’t be in business, there’s a market for them.

The overall impact is debatable. Do the low prices more than offset the suppressed wages? Probably. How about after Walmart's impact on welfare programs is factored in? It's not so cut and dry anymore. Taxpayers subsidize every business that doesn't pay its employees a living wage. Walmart goes so far as to help its employees apply for government benefits.

I think unions are beneficial overall, and they are a result of free market dynamics. One good thing they do is reduce dependence on welfare. Quite the opposite of Walmart.

Non sequitur.

Both are extreme POVs that end up being cannibalistic...

OK, lets pretend Wal Mart never existed. How do you think your mom & pop grocery stores would be providing for your needs during this pandemic?

Yeah, the stuff you needed most would be hijacked by the major cities, where their buying power would supersede small towns, where Wal Mart is entrenched.

The textile mills never made it to Louisiana because the swamp trash were too dumb to work there?

Actually, Louisiana’s cotton country was home to a few Fruit of the Loom plants, but a little thing called NAFTA started a great sucking sound to Mexico. Walmart doesn’t control where Fruit of the Loom puts its plants.

Go and ask the people of Donaldsonville, LA if Wal Mart was good for their community and the people of the area and get back to me.

Walmart killed the old Covington. They opened their first store close to downtown/Boston Street and moved further and further out to cheaper land after killing the competition of small businesses on Boston Street.

But the old way wasn’t all that glorious and was kind of like shopping is now - you had limited selections and took what you could get. I prefer the old Covington but I can see the appeal of the newer, different Covington.

Amazon is a 1000x better for small businesses than Wal-Mart.

Then, presumably, small businesses with the help of Amazon will start gaining significant ground in the fight against Wal Mart, right? That's how a free market and competition are supposed to work.

Looks like someone watched 60 Minutes years ago. I remember that report it was very antiWalmart.

But in Donaldsonville was it truly Walmart’s fault. Donaldsonville has been a dying community for decades. Walmart made a bet and opened a store there, yes some businesses suffered but others prospered. Then, Donaldsonville kept heading south and Walmart had to shut down too.

Go a little further down Bayou Lafourche where Rouses has built a grocery empire right in the face of Walmart. Not only are they beating Walmart, but Rouses has been expanding to other areas and states.

In business you have to innovate and know your customer, if you cannot adapt then you are digging your own grave.

Walmart knows this, and they are adapting to change. Change in business can be good. If you don’t change then you end up like Sears and Kmart.

Sorry you hate capitalism

Their business model steps on toes, oh noez!1!, If it didn't work they wouldn't be doing it. Other businesses should be better, not bitch about Walmart who they can't control.

Walmart is a major reason the US has the relationship with China today, which involved crushing the manufacturing sector

Seems like years ago (80s ?) Walmart was promoting that they sold US products only.
I think they had free red white and blue bumper stickers with “Made is USA”, or “USA made”.

They moved in and the locals found they could not compete, downtown got shuttered mostly. The locals went to work for WalMart. You are right that Donaldsonville was dying before that but they built there anyway . Then 2.5 years later they built another one up the road in Plaquemine,LA where thete wad a slightly higher population density and as a result WalMart shutters the Donaldsonville store.

The hillbillies from Bentonville could not give a shite less . Plus they were the biggest whore for China corporately.

Crushing? The US is still the 2nd biggest manufacturer in the world if they didn't sell TV's made in Korea or China someone else would.

Does ANYONE think the clothes they sell made in China would be made here? Who in this country is gonna be standing in line to take shitty textile jobs.
