US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin believes that the Ukrainian military should focus on striking Russian targets that "can directly influence the current fight" rather than attacking oil refineries on enemy territory, reports Bloomberg.

"Those attacks could have a knock-on effect in terms of the global energy situation. Ukraine is better served in going after tactical and operational targets that can directly influence the current fight," he said.

The head of the Pentagon also called on Congress to approve additional military aid to Ukraine and emphasized that such aid would also help increase defense production in the United States itself as this money would help the defense industry.

Austin's statement about the refineries was condemned by Republican Senator Tom Cotton, who accused the White House of obstructing Ukraine's effective actions due to political considerations.

"It sounds to me that the Biden administration doesn’t want gas prices to go up in an election year
," he said.

After a series of strikes by Ukrainian drones on oil refineries in the Russian Federation , gasoline production fell. In three weeks of March, Russian oil refineries reduced the output of automobile gasoline by 10%.

On April 2, 2024, a Ukrainian drone hit the primary oil processing facility at the refinery in Nizhnekamsk (Tatarstan), after which a fire broke out there.

Strikes by Ukrainian drones caused damage to Russia's oil refining infrastructure, knocking out 10-15% of its capacities.

So we want Ukraine to be able fend off the invasion by Russia; AS LONG AS the tactics they use don’t cause gasoline prices to rise during an election year.

Got it.

Refineries are the ultimate military target. Ploesti, anyone?

The raid was a disaster, but got Jerry's attention.

This is what happens when we let politicians run war strategy. “Focus on killing people so you don’t hurt the election “

That would cause this money laundering operation to turn into a real war, we can't have that.

If we are, it’s not being reported; however, also appears we don’t have a history of consistently importing finished motor gasoline from Russia. According to this, we went from April 2013 through May 2014 not importing any from them.

Exhibit Z that we don’t really want this war to end. Ukraine has to destabilize Russia’s logistics to win this war. You don’t think Russia is targeting fuel depots?

Europe buying Russian oil via India at record rates in 2023 despite Ukraine war

New west-east route keeps Europe hooked on Russian gas

They just can't quit Putin...

Austin clearly isn't a very smart fella.

How on Earth did he actually say this shite out loud? Oh sure. We know why he's saying it but damn. Doesn't he know not to say the quiet part out loud?

Oh they understand it very well. But the plan is not for Ukraine to actually win. The plan is to keep the money laundering going for as long as possible.

It's not being imported directly from Russia but is being sent to refineries in Turkey, India, China etc. and then being shipped here.

It is amazing to hear the constant drumbeat of how vitally important it is that Ukraine win this war but also see them implement war strategy that handicaps Ukraine to help Democrat reelection chances.

The same reason they are demanding a ceasefire in Gaza so the Death to America faction in this country will vote for Biden.

Hamas still has American hostages but none of them are black WNBA players so their safe return has no reelection value.

We imported finished gasoline from China in March, August and September of last year.
Turkey: Five months in 2023, and January 2024.
India: Six months last year. None reported for January.

Not really significant amounts from those countries, or really any country, for that matter.

Now…the U.S. does export fairly large volumes of finished gasoline consistently to all three countries, especially China. We are a HUGE net exporter of gasoline.

We imported 30 million barrels of fuel from Jan -Sept 2023 from refineries that use Russian oil.

While that's insignificant it's still funding Russia.

And the Saudis and UAE also buy Russian oil blend it and ship it to us.

The loophole is that blended oil or fuel is not covered by sanctions.
