A good friend of mine who got laid off awhile back falls into the group that is currently not receiving benefits due to the extension not having passed a couple of weeks ago. Now DC is on vacation for a week. I hear the next vote won't be till the 28th. This has to pass at some point huh? He is starting to bug the crap out of me for money.

Tell him to do what the rest of the "smart" people do and go on Social Security Disability!

It is amazing how many people who are unemployed for 99 weeks ... somehow seem to then recall "ooohhh... my neck and my back" ... from whatever their last job was, of course ... and just roll back to suckling that teat.

Collect your slave wage.

I also have to assume that "99 weeks" was chosen for two reasons:

1) Most people are too stupid to realize that 99 weeks is damn near 2 fricken years.

2) "100" would seem like a lot ... to those same people.

I could be wrong with that assumption.

If a person can't find any work in 99 weeks ... then he or she might want to warm up to the idea of flippin' burgers.

Do you have any yard work or something for him to do?

Sounds like he may be like Cousin Eddie ... "holding out for a management position" for 6 years.

Ummmmm... No. Never been on UI. I have been in executive HR for many, many years.

Perhaps I misunderstood your post. If I did, I'm sorry.

But your suggestion that companies would pay more to employees if they didn't have to pay UI is absurd. If that were the case, they would pay more when their rates went down. Or, for that matter, any time their costs went down. They don't. A company will not pay more than a going rate for an employee position regardless of their expenses or savings. I've never worked for any company - nor heard of any company - that said, " Oh, my costs went down so I can give my employees a raise." Nope. They took any savings as profit.

I apologize as well. I get a little carried away on this board on rare occasions, that was one of them. As for the HR thing, I have a master's in HR myself although have been out of it for a while and went into nursing. I was bored with the 9-5 gig. Anyway, I understand your point about company and profit. My point was "in theory" and also mentioned the profit side of it as well. I think it is 'understood' that the company would pocket any savings, just the way it is. I was just trying to prove a point, poorly I'd imagine, to the poster.
