About 20% of China's exports are purchased by Americans. Name a country or company who would not be crippled by the loss of 1/5 their customers. We can buy most of their products from other sources. How would the fascist Chinese system deal with unemployment?
Now China could sell off US debt. They have been doing this to buy and prop up their own currency in the last few years. Others would buy American debt. We might have to pay higher rates and this would increase inflation. But the resultant devalued dollar would increase our exports and decrease our inputs. US manufacturing would increase.
America would be better off with a gradual and negotiated trade shift, and not a destructive trade war.
However, seeing Honolulu, San Francisco, Portland, or Juneau nuked would be far far worse!
