I guess with the Jackson mayoral race going the way it did it was only a matter of time before leftists permeated the entire area. The UAW has been pulling out all the stops with Danny Glover, Common the rapper, Bernie Sanders, the NAACP, and local black preachers all calling this the civil rights struggle of the 21st century.

I guess these folks hope that paying the UAW some union dues will save them from the best unskilled labor jobs in the entire state. Idiots.

quote:

The pro-union campaign has sought to link support for the union with civil rights for African-Americans. Workers at Nissan’s plant in Smyrna, Tennessee, rejected the UAW in 1989 and 2001 votes, but no election has been held at the Mississippi plant in Canton. The Mississippi campaign has featured support from the NAACP and actor Danny Glover, as well as a rally in March headlined by U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, a Vermont independent and former Democratic presidential candidate.

“We see organized labor as a mechanism to give workers and African-Americans a voice around their quality of life,” said Derrick Johnson, president of the Mississippi branch of the NAACP.

Yep, having the UAW in Jackson will make everything better. With some time maybe it will be just like Detroit.

And as a campaign funding conduit for leftist politicians like Bernie Sanders and Chokwe Lumumba.

Damn people are dumb.

I believe there have been several votes against unionizing at this Nissan plant. Now the UAW is trying to somehow strong-arm the workers into it.

Those votes were at the Smyrna TN plant apparently. There has never been a vote at the Canton plant - until now.

Those union thugs need to be met by some good ole country folks for a welcome to the south party.

Isn't Mississippi a Right to Work state? If so, how does this come into play?

You can still have a union in a right to work state.

ETA: They just can't force you to join to work in that plant.

As a property owner in Madison, I pray that the sentiment of this being a waste of time is right.

That was Jackson. Canton is a separate town in a separate county. However, I guess sentiment is that some, perhaps many, of the plant workers live in Jackson (who elected an overtly racist and socialist mayor) and therefore are of the same mindset with regards to unionizing. Canton is also a predominantly black city, so maybe they think the same sentiment applies. We'll see what happens.

If this goes down for the UAW you'll probably want to move. So much union dues money will start flowing into local politics that Kwame Kilpatrick will probably be the next mayor of Canton.

They have political alzheimer's. Everyday is a new day. Maybe this time socialism will work if we just do it right and get the right people in charge.

Uh huh. Union bosses are such wonderful humanitarians.

People that can unionize and vote against it certainly are dumb. Unions do a lot of shady shite, but one thing the almost always do is make life better for its members. Better wages, better benefits, legal protection, etc.

Unions in Mississippi serve no purpose at all. As soon as The union starts making demands, Nissan will call their bluff and UaW will be powerless.

I honestly think this amounts to nothing long term because of how MS labor laws are set up.

The union will win the day but will have very little operational impact.

In a plant that already has some of the highest wages in the state, working indoors in air conditioning, with a 401(k), health insurance, vacation, etc.

What the hell is the union going to do other than take dues money?

Amusing to me how people still believe that nonsense.

Better wages does not always equal better take-home.

If your assertion were actually true, then unions would be flourishing.

Unions aren't flourishing today because the Democratic party started abandoning them in the 80's, just when the Republican party escalated their assault on them.
