These people are mentally ill without a doubt. Should be held to the same standard as those who fail psych exams.

I am active duty and have been in over 20 years. This is a sad day. We should welcome all individuals that are willing to die for us if they can perform up to our standards. Just because other people can't handle nudity in a mature way, we are now discriminating. We waste so much money on gov contracts that the financial excuse for this is a joke. It is such a small percentage of our force. A lot of these same excuses were used for gays and minorities in the service.

Sad day.

I tend to agree. I don't give a frick about transgenders and I think if they can perform in whatever capacity is needed they should be allowed. I also think it sucks that the military has to pay for surgery, as I'm not sure surgery is the answer to gender dysphoria. But it seems like an insignificant cost in the grand scheme.

Therein lies the problem. If a guy wants to cut off his dick, there is definitely a mental issue.

Brother, we all have mental issues but does your issue limit your ability to do your duties.

So how many will go this route to try and get out of the Army?

That might be easier than claiming to have heel spurs like Trump

But its not your life or mission or job to make such a call.

Hey how about I make the call and force your home to be a tranny halfway house. Enjoy.

So if someone already "transitioned" are they barred from service? Or does that only apply to "works in progress?"

We all have mental issues. As long as your issues don't affect your duties or the mission.

Just out of curiosity do we know how many "transgender" people are in the military and/or how many were lined up to get surgery?

No that's bullshite and you know it.
Not even going to go into combat here because that's self explanatory

So when a dude becomes a chick and murders all the female Pt standards and gets promoted over the other women they'll raise hell

When anything bad happens to them, like I don't know getting yelled at and their arse chewed, they'll call discrimination.

The military having to pay for their transition surgieries. Which I'm not sure how long that takes but probably at least a year or more. Great now we've lost a gun out the fight for a year a least.

They'll skip and try to get out of deployments because of their issues.

Dudes these days are already soft and this will make them this much softer. The military isn't a fricking video game you should know that

No. Taking the latter case, first. You don't even know your own history. Blacks, hell Indians (feather, not dot) served in all major U.S. conflicts. Blacks just largely served in segregated units (and typically with white officers) until after WWII.

As far as Gays - I remain convinced that DADT was a great compromise. Open homosexuality is incompatible with military service for the United States - again, in my humble opinion. The close quarters, living conditions, etc., are the basis for this.

I have almost 30 years service, albeit mostly in the reserve component.

I don't think females belong in combat roles. Having said that, some of my best subordinates and superiors have been female (I haven't had the best of luck with female peers, but that's a different story for a different time).

Well it's not really Trump deciding that.

It was the generals in the military. The men and women in charge of our national security.

People who he values their opinion.

Unlike Obama who ignored them.

I'm somewhat torn on this.

On one hand, if someone can pass all mental and physical requirements for the military, I don't see why that person should not be allowed to serve in the military.

On the other hand, I also understand the "disruption" and catering to their very specific needs. I also find it ridiculous for the US government to pay for their surgeries and/or hormones.

I wonder if this means Bradley Manning will be separated from the military immediately.
