Guys like Manafort and Flynn are crooked, but there are probably a lot of innocent, good people (who aren't exactly wealthy) who are really being squeezed financially right now by the counsel. I have empathy for them and this is a good move by trump. On the other hand, it could be a conflict of interest.

quote:

President Trump plans to spend at least $430,000 of his personal funds to help cover the mounting legal costs incurred by White House staff and campaign aides related to the ongoing investigations of Russian meddling in last year’s election, a White House official said.

I think the legal fees should be paid for by the counsel itself, with money appropriated by congress.

They ought to put it on Jeff Sessions' tab; He's the one that lets this stuff fly. Appointing a SP to investigate Hillary/Obama-Uranium 1 would put an end to this whole ugly/criminal charade.

mmcgrath, you think the government should be able to force you to liquidate your life savings in legal defense costs if you are innocent?

430k is the cost to rent an apartment or two in one of his towers for a year or two. That's nothing.

I would be impressed if he said he is pledging 25 million or something like that.

Isn't he a billionaire?

That would be an even bigger red flag. When organized crime bosses promise to pay their minions' attorneys' fees in the event the minions are arrested, I think the payments can be considered to constitute an element of the criminal conspiracy.

He’s getting the RNC to pay his and Don Jr’s legal fees. There were probably hard feelings they weren’t going to pay for everybody else to lawyer up.
