Trumpvfefe's decision to announce in the rose garden like this is intriguing. It seems on the surface to be a terrible decision to announce it like that either way, because it's basically a lose-lose for him (either piss off your base or endure hundreds of hours of media stories about how you are personally destroying all life on Earth). But something tells me he has an ace up his sleeve big league.

As far as the decision, I hope he stays in symbolically while simultaneously gutting all the idiotic regulations Obama put in to comply with it. Why should we pay 20% more for electricity when many other countries who have signed on to the deal aren't doing jack shite? It's a total absurdity.

My bet, Trump withdrawals to keep a campaign promise but then sends it to the Senate for a ratification debate. It dies in the Senate but Trump can say that he gave it a truly American chance.

I think he pulls out of the deal, but announces he will embrace a possible renegotiation of outlines for the US to set as goals

He will stay in it...for now.

Next season he might withdraw.

We will have to tune in.

Huge ratings.

The more I think about it, the more I think this is what he'll do. It's a total symbolic agreement so staying on in basically name only doesn't hurt anything as long as you scrap the atrocious regs. It's as close to a win-win as you can get out of the thing.

That is the problem. Then the next Admin could just go all in b/c the US never pulled out. Trump has to pull the US out b/c the Obama admin unilaterally entered into the agreement. Yes, it is nonbinding but that doesn't stop a future admin from forcing it on the citizens of the US.

Jonathan Swan of Axios is adamant this is a done deal and has been for a while, he's pulling out for sure.

I also like the idea of sending it to the senate, but the logic of saying well the next admin could just bring back the onerous regs doesn't really hold up. By that logic, why do anything because in the future another admin could do the opposite?

It is nonbinding, so the Trump admin could just ignore it, but it would still be in place. I've read several analysis saying that a US withdrawal would be final and that it is likely that a new agreement would have to be drawn up in the future. Now, that very well could happen, but that is a lot harder than just picking it up, dusting it off and starting back where the Obama admin left off.

Regardless, the US should have never entered into it with out sending it to Congress to be ratified. The scope of the agreement is such that it shouldn't be treated as anything other than a treaty.

Cute...wheres your guy? He would have been on board from day one on this BS. She would have been on board after a small $10,000,000 donation to the Clinton bank account...AKA foundations.

If Trump goes through with pulling out of the Paris treaty, the impact will be profound. He will have incurred the wrath and contempt of leaders throughout the world. And, America is expected to lead on climate and environmental issues. What will happen is that China and other developing nations will just pollute like there's no tomorrow.

Mr Trump, if you have a soul, PLEASE don't withdraw from the Paris accord.

Are you really so naive that you don't think China is doing this anyway? With or without the US in any agreement.

You mean, like they already do, and have been doing for decades? Why do polluting countries need a global agreement to stop polluting--They're doing the polluting, so they could just stop.
