Exactly!
Trump is probably saying this bullshite because he needs the GOP might still need the south for only one more election. His second term will allow him to set this bullshite aside. Moreover, now that the Rust Belt and the interior western states flipped republican, GOP candidates won't even need to appeal to the southeastern states any longer.
Texas is pretty much a swing state, and so is Florida. This means TX and FL can vice grip the states in between and control their oil if they get out of control. I doubt Texas would want to regress and become more like Arkansas and Louisiana any time soon.

I think a wall is unnecessary. Just adjudicate identity theft, stop giving then freegovernment services, stop employing them, ect. If you stop paying them to come here, they will stop coming here, and those already here will leave. You don't need a wall to keep out people who don't want to be here.
