What probably happened is Trump or a transition member talked about his family while talking to a foreign government. E.g. someone talking to the Israeli PM brings up that Kushner is going to spearhead a Mideast peace attempt. That gets picked up because the IC records all the conversations with the Israeli PM.

You think the intelligence community just recently started recording every conversation of important foreign diplomats?
If you call the Russian diplomat that conversation will be recorded. I really wonder if someone in the Trump team said something incriminating during one of those phone calls, allowing the FBI to obtain a FISA warrant against them. That's basically what a BBC reporter alluded to a while ago.
