"The president has spoken with counsel and made the decision to donate his first quarter salary to a government entity," Spicer said at Monday's briefing. Spicer handed a check for $78,333.32 for the National Park Service to Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke. Spicer said the paycheck starts from Jan. 20, when Trump took office, until now.

I saw someone post on Facebook about how Trump is a lying POS because he said he wasn't going to take a salary but he's been taking one. I was like the president is required by law to take a salary you fricking idiot. He's just working on the logistics of donating it.

Me no likey. Here's why.
quote:

The American Framers considered payment of the presidential salary an important duty under the Constitution, and the principle that moved them then matters just as much as it ever did: It confirms that the president serves the public, and not the other way around. If the Founders’ reasons were good enough to persuade George Washington, our first independently wealthy president, they should be good enough for Donald Trump.
quote:

it opened the highest public office—at least in possibility—to those who were not independently wealthy. Second, in minimizing future presidents’ need to rely on outside sources of income, it confirmed that the president would be a true public servant, beholden to the people who elected him.

Trump's doing this is indicative of how savvy a President he isn't. Giving his civilian money to the NPS, of course, would be great; giving his Presidential paycheck is an empty gesture that undermines the purpose of said check as well as disrespects the office.

All this.. Please let it happen on his twitter at 3 am after a big one with Melania while smoking a cigarette. If he is going to call that phony biatch out, do it in style--like a Boss.

^ A perfect example of being a moron who complains because "TRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMP"

What's the fricking difference if he signs a government check over or if he writes his own check, in EITHER case, the money is rightfully his to give as he sees fit.

Why don't you read the article and learn why instead of being an ignorant name-caller? It's actually quite interesting a story that highlights the brilliance of the Founders.
