If this is true I vehemently disagree with Trump here. We shouldn't trust Erdogan at all, his minions are just ISIS lite. We should be going all in with the SDF, kick Turkey out of NATO, pull our nukes out of Incirlik AFB, and tell Turkey to go pound sand.

Whether you trust ergodan ologistically we need a footprint in Turkey and turkey was an important buffer for Europe against the Middle East prior to the mass migration.
That being said ergodan cannot really be trusted and he is for sale to the highest bidder.

Turkey is part of nato. We can't go around them on this. And turkey already has been implementing a de facto safe zone on syria side of the border anyway.

Yeah that's not true.
Erdogan is a regular authoritarian that people continually confuse with an Islamist. I understand why, but it's not an accurate description. Turkey's strategic importance can't be overstated.

Just look at the filth that Turkey is populating areas of Syria like Jarabulus that they have taken over. These people almost shot out our special forces that were embedded with them to help provide air strikes. Our guys had to high tail it out of there and have not provided assistance since.
