The 140 million that would have come to Louisiana for Coastal Restoration is greatly needed.

Louisiana needs a tremendous amount of help rebuilding the wetlands and creating a coastal defense against tropical storms.

It's not the Federal Government's job to bail out the shitty Louisiana economy that got that way due to horrible elected leaders.

You may be on to something.

Mitch claims the statutes retarded the growth of NO. Maybe we can put the statues on the coast and they can retard the wetlands loss...

This is about Coastal Restoration not about mismanaged money from poorly elected leaders. I dont think the poor elected leaders will ever change for Louisiana.

As someone from the politically shitty state of LA, I completely agree.

Then put the Mississippi River back to its original course. Otherwise, everything else is ecological tampering. See also: Everglades and St Johns Water Management District.

Wait, shouldn't BP have paid for a lot of that through fines for their little mistake in the Gulf a few years ago? I thought the fines were massive.

The federal government's levees largely caused the land loss in the first place. They should help to pay for the cleanup of the mess they made in 1927.

The've been punching holes in the levees to help build wetlands. This 140M would have been used for that.

Also agreed.

We fricked this up and continue to ignore it.

Louisiana should only be allowed to elect "advisory" political officials that have no authority to do anything. Let the feds send a committee here to run the state, or a group of monkeys just so long as Louisiana voters have no say in the running of the state or the states business.

Put another way, would you let a special needs child vote? of course not.

Most of that was used in furtherance of graft.

It's the only option, but it's political suicide, and therefore will never even come close to happening.

Yes, any many Obama supporters opposed that as well.
