trump on Israel and palestine

quote:

Donald Trump has suggested he is open to the idea of a one-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, breaking with two-decades of US commitment to an eventual two-state solution.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanhayu, the US President said he was “looking at two states and one state”, and was “happy with the one both parties like”, to laughs from reporters.

What does this even mean? What would a one state deal even look like, much less one that Israelis and Palestinians would agree to.

Trump is truly beyond.

It more or less calls out Israel's bluff. In a single state solution they would have to allow Palestinians to have equal rights to an Israeli. Will never happen. Israel likes the status quo and wants to keep encroaching on Palestinian territory.

Neither side would go for it really. He also gave Bibi a double take by telling him to slow down the settlements.

Nothing solid yet, but I don't have much of a problem with him on this.

He speaks and doesn't know what he's talking about. It's all smoke and mirrors with this guy. If he doesn't know or understand a question hell just bring up Hillary or his election numbers. He's good a deflection.

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said on Thursday the United States still supports a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, a day after President Donald Trump suggested he is open to new ways to achieve peace.

Well it is not like the 2 state solution ideas were working; so it really doesn't mean jack shite.

You obviously don't know the strategy behind why Trump is A) Calling for a One state solution B) Taking on the media

Explain why he is calling for one state and Nikki Haley is defending the two state option.

Is she undermining her boss?

The exchange between he and Bibi was a little tense with the one state solution and settlements comment. I really would like to know what a one state solution is. It did not come off as a joke live.

it would look like there is already an Arab state in the Palestine mandate, full of people ethnically and culturally identical to the Palestinian refugees, comprising almost 80% of the Palestinian territory, and it's called Jordan. There already is a 2 state solution. Stripping off even more of the tiny land of Israel and giving it to people who abandoned their neighbors to be slaughtered by invading Arab armies back in 48 is a 3 state solution

A one state solution reunites Israel and Palestine and makes the Palestinians there full citizens with voting rights. It was the original solution, with Israel for the Jews and Jordan for the Muslims. The problem is that the Palestinians there would be either a plurality or a slight majority, and if "right of return" is permitted, the Palestinians would flood Israel and take over, likely leading to the subjugation and ethnic cleansing of Jews or a civil war.

No this is what TRUMP! does. He says one thing, his ppl say another, the media melts, democrats cry, his opponents are confused and then boom TRUMP! moves in for the kill. That strategy got him elected, got NATO to agree to spend the 2%, and a bunch of other things, so why change strategies now?

He has no idea what either one of those terms mean. It's not a big deal, really.

NATO agreed to pay?

And you believe that check is in the mail?

You know if they do pay they will absolutely require Putin to get out of Crimea.

You guys are all not being cynical enough. You need to look into who is actually in charge in Israel (hint: the settler party can bring down the government at any time).

Israel's "one state" solution is not going to involve making the Arabs "full citizens with voting rights." It'll be South Africa.

You might also see the overtures Israel has been making with Iran.

I legit have no clue what a one state solution looks like. Of course progress towards a two state solution is basically nonexistent, so it's hard to call that solution viable either.

No, but it's kind of representive of a common theme lately. It's not working the way we're doing it now, so it can't be any worse, even if it's less logical.

Maybe it's true, but it sounds a lot like progressive reasoning where you always have to do something to make progress, as if the same doesn't hold true for a regression.
