I wouldn't prosecute/convinct a store owner or anyone else that shot those animals.

No jury would convict unless it was in an ultra-liberal city like Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco or Seattle.

This would come down to a jury.

You'd have a pretty tough time getting 12 people to fail to acknowledge that, during a riot, the shooter didn't feel reasonably threatened.

Not gonna happen because the store owner is probably a law abiding citizen and would not own an AR or at least high capacity magazines in NYC...

I think in a store front situation like that, some other type of first line defense might be better. Like maybe sprinklers that will soak the area, then hit a switch that sends 240 volts. Then shoot them.

You can’t use deadly force to solely protect property.. Literally someone needs to be attacking you physically before you can use deadly force.
