Top college majors for earning and employment - 'community building' is way at the bottom

Have no idea what the heck 'community building' may be nor do I care to find out. Sounds very much like 'community organizing.'

The least lucrative majors: Studio and fine art, human services and community building, and composition and rhetoric, or the study of speaking and writing—all in the bottom five.

That list doesn't make a lot of sense.
quote:

A new report from The Cashlorette analyzed median incomes and unemployment rates for U.S. adults with only a bachelor’s degree across 173 different majors
quote:

On the opposite end of the spectrum is clinical psychology, which came in as the least valuable college major. In addition, clinical psychologists have a high unemployment rate of around 8% and make a median salary of $43,092, about 31% less than the average.
Well Clinical Psychology is a graduate degree so I don't even know why it's on a list of bachelor's degrees.

Well, maybe it goes to show that, even with a graduate degree, Psychology majors are wasting their time.

If college was a trade school it would get kids ready for the real world....college is an indoctrination into socialism.

And pharmaceutical sciences with a median income of $116,000 must be including pharmacists which is a doctoral level professional degree.

So clearly whatever they are supposed to be measuring, is not being measured very well.

That's because liberal arts degrees vary a lot from school to school. For example there is probably a big difference between a history degree from Harvard versus Alabama. There is not that much difference between a Mechanical Engineering degree from LSU versus Georgia Tech...both have the same accreditation, same text books and required to take the same exams to qualify by state law as an engineer.

There are programs that offer a BA in clinical psychology. Not sure if it's an actual clinical psychology degree or just an emphasis on the clinical side. I don't think it invalidates the list by itself.

You must have chosen a shitty major and friends if you believe that.

I agree the list is bullshite, because it only addresses the undergraduate degree.

Plenty of people major in Political Science, English, etc., and then go to law school or B School and do fine. Lumping them in with the others is questionable.

No! The pharmacist who works at your local pharmacy, in your local CVS, or in your grocery store's pharmacy most definitely DOESN'T have a doctoral degree. My local pharmacist only has a bachelor's. I have a friend who is a pharmacist in a hospital and has a master's. So, no!

Maybe some "community builders" also get money from other off the books sources.

1 - My degree is in Business (but I'm very observant)
2 - I have no friends

There you have it.

Why, you certainly had free time as a business major.

No. Pharmacists have required a Doctor of Pharmacy to even sit for the licensing exam.

Wiki on Pharmacy worldwide

Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education

quote:

All graduating pharmacists must now obtain the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree before they are eligible to sit for the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX) to enter into pharmacy practice.

They may have been grandfathered in, but the PharmD requirement dates back to 1997, so the majority will have a PharmD.
