Today's briefing fiasco with Miller and Acosta is a good example of why cameras were off

Unfortunately for the majority of the press corps who are good people just reporting on the facts and events as they happen, we have quite a few shitheads that use the White House Press briefing to pull off a stunt and get on camera to raise their profiles and further their career prospects while trying to embarrass the Trump White House any way they can and that is irresponsible and unethical journalism.
POTUS said frick that, no more free rides for your career on White House grounds if you're going to keep doing that shite every time. He should tell them no more camera briefings until those few shitheads learn how to behave.
Now we now why Acosta straight up melted down when they went off camera because that was his best opportunity to raise his profile.

Does Acosta understand the press briefings aren't meant to be pulpits to spread a worldview?
That was one of the most unprofessional things I have ever seen from a WH reporter in my life.

hope he keeps at it though
Nothing Trump could do or say could make the press look worse
and I call bullshite on the theory that most reporters are just trying to do their job

He knows that and he doesn't care.
He straight up melted down when the briefings were off camera and you saw why that was today. He wants to make a scene to raise his profile and the James Brady Press briefing room is the best place to do that.

I didnt see it as a fiasco.
The media is at war with the Trump administration and so far, the communications team has been getting ran over.
Yet today, we saw a media member get beat the frick down on national TV. It was glorious

The level of cringe by Acosta today was so bad I couldn't watch the whole thing.

I agree.
And that's why cameras being off was a big help to them.

I don't care who's winning or not. The briefings are not supposed to be street fights between the administration and the media and today strictly undermined that ideal.

Are we gonna get a video or something?

If you watch it you'll weep for our nation.

It reminded me of when Nixon asked Dan Rather if he was running for president after Rather editorialized during a "question."
I have never understood why Rather's retort, "no Mr. President, are you?" was considered some sort of gotcha moment.

Wow that was amazing. Acosta got taken to the woodshed big time.

I loved today's briefing. It's a shame though that Stephen Miller has to stand up there and basically teach a crash course on American history because Jim Acosta and others don't know what the hell theyre talking about.

Acosta acts like a petulant child.

Stephen Miller was, by far, the biggest arse in that press room today. And the man is totally ignorant. It amazes me that someone so ignorant could be in such an important position.
The New Colossus was written by Emma Lazarus in 1883 as part of a campaign to raise $$$ for the Statue of Liberty's pedestal. The last lines of that poem were added to the pedestal in 1903. Miller trying to somehow lessen the importance of those words by saying they were added much later is misleading.

They should release a written brief - and invite written questions which the WH will answer in written form.
And call this the "Acosta Rule."

I agree - reporters should report, not grandstand or give political speeches thinly veiled as questions in a press conference. Your proposal would go a long way to getting to that point....

No - Today, Miller was the adult in the room trying to communicate with a spoiled child.

u cray.

This is true - but it was not the original purpose of the statue - and it carried no official policy status. It was a tug at the heartstrings for $$$. Makes sense that modern DEMs are so impressed with it.

hmmm - 2017-1903 = 114yrs. 114 yrs later = 'much later.' Makes sense to me. What is 'misleading' about that. What is definitely misleading is to confer some sort of policy obligation on them.
btw - how do you feel about adding "under God" to the pledge of allegiance? = and that was done by congress.
The words represent a warm sentiment. Find me a time in history where they were taken as official policy.

I have a theory. Pick a university with a journalism school. Go ask 100 journalism majors why they picked journalism as a profession. I'm guessing fewer than 10% will answer "because I want to provide information to the public". The rest will be something along the lines of "because I want to make a difference", or "I want to change the world for the better", or similar. There's a sense of self-importance in journalists that's frankly unhealthy in my opinion......
