LINK

quote:

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has revealed that he didn't seek his current role in the U.S. administration and only accepted the job after being convinced by his wife.

"I didn't want this job. I didn't seek this job," he told the Independent Journal Review in an interview during his recent Asia trip which was published on Wednesday.

"My wife told me I'm supposed to do this," he added.

why even make these remarks? Especially with him announcing that he is skipping the NATO meetings and cutting the Asia trip short. I mean even if this isnt a reflection of how he views the job now it's just bad timing to be saying stuff like this...

Now this CNBC article of course makes it sound like thats all there was to the interview. That is a huge misrepresentation. See the entire interview here: LINK CNBC mysteriously left out the last quote in the story
quote:

“My wife convinced me. She was right. I’m supposed to do this.”
I wonder why?

Just another example of MSM making news into "fake news".

Is this news? Tillerson stated this when he was approached. He stated that he was going to retire and enjoy life with the grandkids, before he got a call. After discussing it with his wife, she told him that he had a duty to serve his country.

Read that this morning.

I think it was worth him saying it so he could get his point across. He isn't a guy who wants to be President so is just doing the Sec. of State role in order to up his profile.

He is an American patriot who wants to be retired but was asked by the President to do this so he agreed to it.

That's the whole point of the article. How he approaches things differently than our politicians have in the past.

If it has to do with Trump, there is no nuance to words or phrases, everything must be taken hyper-literally. No such thing as self-deprecating or dry humor.

This is the kind of person you want running the govt. A person that's only real incentive is a desire to serve his/her country. The majority of the politicians become politicians bc of the influence and power that comes with it. This guy has more $$ then he knows what to do with and he ran one of the most prestigious companies in the nation. He was ready to relax and enjoy his golden years but instead took the call to serve his country.

Tillerson speaking truth. Something the former Administration was utterly adverse to; Truth was not their friend.

Is this supposed to be a negative? I want people in power who do not want the power and are simply serving because they think they can make a positive difference.

ETA: The people who "serve" to advance their careers are the ones you need to worry about.

I agree, but this seems to be more of a case of Rex feeling a moral obligation to serve when called upon.

The guy has worked very hard in his life and seems to really want to enjoy retirement.

I wouldn't want the job either if I was I was the leader of one of the best companies in the world making a kush $30 mill a year with incentives.

Not to mention all the shite that the last 2 sos left behind in the wake. Tillerson and company is probably spending just as much time cleaning up all the crap from the last years before even getting to the actual job at hand.

We need more people taking jobs like this out of duty rather than greed or lust for power.

People who have a problem with this are crazy. This is more or less the same logic that Bernie bros used against Hillary (he hasn't gotten rich off government blah blah), yet when Tillerson is doing then it's bad?

Only 2 possible reasons:
1 - He's an old school, country before self

OR

2 - his wife wanted to bang Putin

I am ambivalent at best toward Trump and did not vote for him. But it may even be worse than you say. Not only is their nuance, words that clearly explain a situation are often ignored. If you read what Tillerson went on to say, it is clear that he accepted the position out of a sense of duty to his country. Heaven forbid.

Sure, phrases have been taken out of context for years, but it's gotten worse, and the offenders are no longer just fringe media elements but mainstream outlets. Very discouraging.

Tillerson is about as plain-spoken as they come. It was refreshing in the corporate world. And it's refreshing in government.

We need more of this.

He did not realize how he moronic the press is. Where nonsense is taken seriously and men of accomplishment are ridiculed. His grandkids act more mature than the media.
