re: This book is gonna cause controversy

What's my solution?
(1) Strive to provide equal opportunity for all, to the extent possible. I say "to the extent possible" because there will never be a completely equal playing field for all people. As one example, I mentioned earlier that the children of rich people will probably have certain advantages. All other factors being equal, it's probably better to Will Smith's son, as opposed to the white son of a guy who works at the post office.
(2) Children need to be encouraged to take academics seriously. This is primarily the responsibility of parents. If parents shirk this responsibility, be they white, black, or whatever, then that isn't anybody's fault.
(3) School-age young people need to be encouraged to abstain from having sex, or at least taught how to prevent pregnancies. The goal is, nobody needs to have children until they are oout of school and working. Preferably, not until they are married. Can't overstate how important this is.
(4) Other than that, I would emphasize that achievement is an individual endeavor. Whether i belong to a high-achieving group or not, that shouldn't have any bearing on me.
Jews and Asians actually seem to be the highest achieving groups, and I doubt it's a coincidence that they stress education more than anybody, and also have a low rate of teenage pregnancies.
So, that would be my formula for success. If more people would adhere to some of these general guidelines, there would be less of a need for excuses.

This is different from what SFP posted, which, from his link, is more hyper-acute changes in DNA methylation and other epigenetic factors causing immediate neuronal changes in subsequent generations. What you are describing is way more primitive and has been hard-wired in us for a really long time, like moro and sucking reflex.
I agree. And not sure why some posters are describing you as a leftist. I always viewed your posts as reasoned. Maybe you post wild stuff at night when Zach is asleep.

Slaves were treated as livestock and breed accordingly for physical characteristics.
I doubt many slave owners knew enough about genetics or had the ability to control the sexual passion of slaves 24/7, to have much if any influence as Jimmy the Greek suggested.
If there is any genetic component to slavery it would be that the best and the brightest of Africa weren't put on the slave ships, and the most sturdy survived the journey. The slaves in the new world probably are a bit less sharp and a bit more durable than the African that remained.

Black Americans made more progress when whites hated us than the current frickery that's going on.

Im not all in this thread but the common thought that blacks were bred into physical superiority during slavery int he US <300 years by slave owners is ridiculous. There is no way that breeding like this was understood at that level by everyone or that it was a common enough practice in that short amount of time to make a difference. "Most" if not all of the physical differences you find in those of african descent in america vs european descent can also be seen in those who have not, and whose ancestors going back 1000 generations have not, left Africa.
Its just plain old genetic variation amongst human populations.

In 2014, nobody is supposed to talk about the obvious reality of white achievement. Guilty white liberals and (some) minorities have effectively "won" the argument, so this phony bullshite of white privilege is what it's all about now.
Funny how whites have achieved more than their black counterparts all over the world FOREVER, though. Man, that white privilege sure is a powerful thing.
I love that this all makes you so angry.

What's the TL/DR version of this thread?

If a nice gentleman brings me flowers and candy and takes me to the movies... shows me a lovely evening, then I would take him home and give him hot lovely relations. Relations is a beautiful thing there ain't nothing to be ashamed of. Sometimes I have relations with myself.
race relations
Mike Douglas... oooooh Mike Douglas. You know Mike Douglas used to make me moist when I'd watch his show. I admit it I would get moist when I'd watch his show. Only white man that ever did that to me was Mike Douglas.

So, I'm reading the book reviews in Saturday's WSJ. I notice that one of the reviewers is Charles Murray, prominent Libertarian and co-author of The Bell Curve. The book is "A Troublesome Inheritance" by Nicholas Wade. Here is the entire review: LINK It's long. The short story: Lewotin's 1972 book saying that 'racial classification is a social construct with no genetic basis' is false.
Last serious works I read on race and culture were in college. Guns, Germs, and Steel was my pre-frosh reading project. I'm actually going to buy this book and give it a serious treatment before I post about it.

I didn't ask you whats your solution, I asked you why you thought it was so?
But yes, I do agree with the rest of your post.

Please post a review when you finish it. BTW, when I said 'it's long' I meant the review that I linked. I think the actual book is only 250 pages.

diamond tries to dismiss the intelligence gap in G/G/S, but he ignores the very likely explanation for why intelligence increases over time in society. the good news is that it can be advanced over time in societies. the bad news is that the gap exists in real time.
The BAD news is the way they are trying to close the gap. Which is to hold the highest achievers back.
