So. Bottom line is, he has extended by a GREAT DEAL how long Americans have talked about this issue over if it all hit at once AND, he's ensured it ALL got it's 15 minutes.
But it's still nothing compared to what the Chinese do, and no one says anything about it.

It's not about him...he's keeping the NSA abuses in the news.

What do the Chinese have to do with the US gov spying on its own citizens?

This guy is an American hero and will be remembered as such over time. He exposed the core of a rotting, corrupt overreaching unconstitutional government. The ones who belong in jail are all sitting in Washington right now. Corrupt frickers

They also have the capacity for almost universal global internet surveillance. They could be spying on you right now and legally, there wouldn't be much you could do about it.

Right but america is associated with freedom, china not so much. Our hypocrisy is the astounding thing in it all.

Are you trolling?

I suspect the difference in actual practice between what the Chinese are doing and our intelligence agencies are doing is negligible at best.
Only difference is that our government PRETENDS it's not ok while simultaneously creating a secret court that is basically a rubber stamp to whatever intel wants to do.
Hell. It's almost arguable that the Chinese approach, being more honest, is better. Regardless though, I don't think there's an appreciable difference between having a wife who tells you on the way out the door she's going to frick your friend and having one who does it while pretending she's not.

Keep the political stuff away from SXSW.

I'm not a Republican and cannot stand the Republican Party. I have no problem with what Snowden did, but have a serious problem with the way he handled the aftermath. I'm just glad our Founders weren't as "brave" as "Mr." Snowden.
Considering how this current administration blamed a video maker for what took place in Benghazi and put him in jail where he remains to this day or that the current administration targeted the Tea Paty groups as well as conservative Christian groups like Graham Ministries and Samaritans Purse using the IRS as their attack dog, do you really think Snowden will not be done away with by our government. Hell, Obama said he gets to be judge, jury and executioner when he killed an American citizen in Yemen because they said he was a terrorist. Obama was so brave to drone in Yemen yet he ain't doing shite with Syria or what is happening in Ukraine.

quote:No I'm not trolling. I talked to some CIA office workers at J. Gilbert's in McLean who told me that American surveillance has produced about 1000 "subjects" who have raised a red flag or other and are being constantly watched. These range from people who've said threatening or inflammatory things on the internet to those who stupidly searched "how to make an IED" on Google. In China, that number is over 40,000. It's close to a real "big brother" atmosphere.
Are you trolling?
My cousin recently traveled there with her Chinese husband and said that they are completely up your arse from the moment you get there. And if you brought your devices from home, you sir are going to get raped.
And it's 100% legal (except the hacking), yet in America, it's a crime against humanity. Putin was even quoted as being surprised by this, saying "all governments do this."

what is? its the truth and says they were spying on people like you and I. They have mass amounts of data on each of us through our cell phone records, internet records etc.
We've been over this before. Collecting data is not "spying". You and I are of no interest to them, unless we become involved with communicating with terrorists. Do you really think anyone at the NSA has pulled your records, studied your communications, and then had you followed or traced? Lol. Of course not. Better yet, can you name one single American citizen who has had any degree of measurable harm done to them or their family because of this data collection?

So if someone catalogues everything in your house, that's not a search? GTFO with that. It's about building a record that can be dredged up later.

I'm not sure if he'll win the suit or even if he isn't full of shite (autocomplete doesn't click "search" for you), but the swiftness with which the FBI responded and the degree to which they went is pretty astonishing.

I'm a bit torn. I don't mind him exposing what the government was doing but at the same time he exposed the foreign intelligence which is the NSA's job. I feel like he should have left that out.

The NSA has catalogued everything in my house? Lol. Do you suppose our governments next step will be wanting to have access to our driver license #, social security #, tax documents, court records, etc?
