Because people freak the frick out when anyone talks about reducing them

Once an entitlement is put in place the only direction you can go is expanding it, you can never retract it

Long-term welfare recipients shouldn't be allowed to vote either.

Agree

I wonder how many of these at these town halls are simply paid to be there or are rabble rousing to rabble rouse, and how many of them actually benefit from Obamacare and don't want it taken away

The only ones who probably benefit from Obamacare are those who are on the bottom of the economic totem pole

The rest are saddled with lack of choice, high premiums, high deductibles

Great idea but what would be the standard? 5 years continuous?

It is a government of, for and by the people. If what the majority of Americans want is healthcare, then who is to say they are wrong?

If we had a balanced budget amendment, it would force the feds to prioritize. I know ... just a dream.

I'm sure 99% of Americans would love to get money and other free benefits from the government. Doesn't make it right or okay at all.

1 year continuous.

And you must be off for 6 continuous months before being able to vote.

Same for any public employee. You cannot hold a public employee position for 6 months prior to the election in order to vote.

1 year. Maybe 18 months. If you can't find a job in your chosen field or re-tool and find one in a different field by then, then you don't deserve to vote.

Surely you can see where this logic can take us to some very strange and untenable solutions.

A couple of Republicans have floated the idea of Medicare reform to go along with their repeal and replace plans. I know Ryan has. Can't remember if Paul's did or not. Price has as well.

You got some stats showing the majority of American's want government run healthcare or even want forced healthcare?

Why not send this in to your district Rep? I really think it's a good idea although 1 year is entirely too short IMO.

I've "heard" of good people having been on the government dole for 2 years who were actively searching for a gig, but had no luck. So separating the leeches from those truly in need would be paramount.

And they show up at the meeting while the people who pay for it don't because they are WORKING.

Why can't they card people before entering the town hall to make sure that the people who are attending it actually live in the district that the town hall is directed towards?

Nope. I don't. Like the OP, I am just going off of feel.

To be clear, I wasn't trying to enter into a debate over the ACA (I'm for it, but would love to see it built/improved upon). I'll patiently await the GOP-held House and senate to propose the bill to repeal the law. When that goes to vote, I presume we'll see at that point what was the will of the people.

I was more trying to enter into a conversation as to what is wrong with citizens speaking out at town hall meetings for or against the ACA, last I checked, there is equal opportunity to speak at these events for both sides of the issue.

They can. Rep. Marsha Blackburn restricted access to hers last night to constituents only. It turned out about the same as all the others have.
