To do what? Eradicate Islamism, whose very appeal is that it is supra-national? Islamism's energy comes from its juxtaposition to the West. The wrong sort of reaction from the West will enshrine Islamism for years and decades to come, since it uses decentralized networks rather than hierarchical structures.

Bloodlust alone won't solve anything.

Unfortunately, war is the only thing that has proven affective against Islam aggression and their forceful means of embedding their ideals throughout the world.

Peace is for the women and the weak. Empires are forged by war.

Right, when the enemy was clear, and had a hierarchy. The issue with decentralized networks is that there isn't a head, and each time we dismantle one another appears.

We could go for the funding but we've made our bed with regards to that.

OK OK, dang. Which song do you want them to play perhaps "the world is a ghetto"? Maybe " the Cisco kid", my personal favorite.

Imperialism put us in this mess. It might solve it, but only if one of the traditional powers, Turkey, Iran, Egypt, is the imperial power.

Its a good start, don't you agree? At least if the lust is followed by actual actions. As many of them as possible need to be killed.

I'm not saying we should give the Islamists any quarter, but they have two advantages. One is asymmetry, meaning they can inflict far more damage, especially on notions of security, with fairly small scale attacks. The second is the massive Sunni underclass, who has been failed by ideology after ideology, from nationalism, socialism, communism, pan-Arabism, etc.

Their propaganda machine is very effective at targeting 2nd and 3rd generation Muslims, who feel alienated for whatever reason, and find meaning in Islamism, where nationality and ethnicity is secondary to religion. Their propaganda machine is also very effective at spreading conspiracies about Jews, Christians and Shia working together to bring the Sunni's down. The Islamsists give the appearance that only they can protect them from the West. Any reaction that isn't measured plays into their hands. Which is why I say that the ideological battle is clear, but the West is losing the narrative battle.

We have been at war for 16 years.

How's that working out?

Maybe instead of toppling Sadaam...

So the last 1000 years of tolerance just needs more time to achieve harmony??

This isn't happening in Iraq, they are coming a West. Kill em at home first, then go there if needed.

You have to give me a more substantive answer than that. By Imperialism I'm including Turkish and Persian imperialism in central and west Asia. The post-War Westphalian system put in place after WWII didn't account for the fact that conversations about nationalism were in their infancy in a portion of the world which had imperial rule for nearly a millennia. The movements for self-determination are in their infancy, and are often redirected, such as ISI forming the Taliban as a way of controlling Pashtun nationalism in Pakistan. I don't see how more Empire and more imperialism will fix this. The movements for self-determination need to happen, as they happened in Europe, in order for a reasonable balance of power to develop in that area of the world. Otherwise we will deal with polities which lack cogency, on ethnic, religious, and ideological levels.
