They are also migrating south. They have been seen in the villages and some areas south of there.

I have often wonder why there wasn't primate population in North America.

well there used to be. But climate killed them, and then the combo of no isthmsus between N/S america until recently and the big fricking desert in north mexico stopped them.

1. Genetically engineer predatory aquatic monkeys which feed on Burmese Python and Lionfish.

2. Release herds of these monkeys in the Everglades and the coasts.

3. ????

4. Profit.

There have been monkeys in Ocala for decades. They were introduced to Silver Springs in the 1930s as part of tours of the river

Isn't that where they shot the Johnny Weismuller Tarzan movies? I thinj they were imported for that.

Florida will soon be nothing but retirees and infected monkeys.

Wtf Florida has a wild monkey population?

Several monkeys escape during the filming of the old Tarzan movies in the 1930's and 1940's that were filmed in the Ocala area. They remained somewhat protected due to the Silver Springs tourist attraction. Now, from what I understand the population has grown to a point of being a problem.

Well... which is it? Old Tarzan movie monkey, released pets, monkey's brought in as attractions or release science study monkeys with herpes? Or all of the above?

Morgan City, LA had a monkey population at one time from the original silent movie Tarzan that was filmed down there. I don't think there were enough of them to create a self-sustaining breeding population there, however, so I doubt there are any left.

Yeah....it's not necessarily promoted, but they have been living in the woods around Silver Springs for about 70 years. Some guy bought a few back in the 1930's and kept them on an island on a river in Central Florida as part of the exhibit. Well, they learned how to swim and made it to the mainland . They have been migrating south over the years.
