The downward spiral we are currently seeing is a long time in the making. It started when God was completely expelled from the public square. From schools, government, courthouses, and every single American institution.

John Adams once said “ Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other”

You may have noticed politicians wiping their arse with the constitution and breaking every law in the universe, turning their backs on everyone they were sworn to serve. It’s because God has been completely removed from the equation.

It’s not simply just canceling God, but also a frantic attempt to divest ourselves of all moral standards.

Disagree.

You shouldn't need the government to be the one instilling religious values into people, they suck at virtually everything.

We certainly have a values issue, but it's 100% a nation-wide parental issue imo. There's a lot of good parents out there, there's just a lot more crappy ones.

Agreed. The murder rate is just one example of the moral downturn.

It's a problem.

When people recognized and answered to God as the ultimate authority, government was put into a lesser place status.

When God is eliminated, government becomes the new god. In this paradigm, the people lose the courage to question government because it basically is now the ultimate authority. At this point humans have their imaginations lobotomized and become obedient slaves.

Murder has been around before god has. It’s always been a problem.

God is everywhere. I don’t know what kind of weak God you are describing, but our Catholic God hasn’t been “expelled” from anything.

Don’t you support a philosophy which suggests men can get pregnant and it’s okay to inject children with hormones?

Remove the idea of God, and one removes hope from the whole life and societal dynamic. Only a few meaningless years with either much to lose if one is successfully, or little/nothing to lose if one is not. Eternal non-existence. Either way a perfect recipe for personal and societal dysfunction.

Even non-believers have to acknowledge the vacuum. Once this country started separating from God’s influence, there was nothing positive to fill the void. Now we’re a bunch of fat asses that scream at athletes to do our will and hit Golden Corral next time they are serving unlimited prime rib

I'm a former atheist that agrees with you. I'm still wrestling with God on a personal level, but I now see the folly of my past beliefs and am working towards becoming a better person for myself, my family, and society.

I don't yet know how to encourage others to follow suit.

If it makes you feel better, I struggle as well. I still enjoy a cold one, I still lose my temper, and I prefer to be in the woods vs hanging out w/ other Christian’s. Thankfully we all serve different purposes

So you’re okay with schools teaching about Allah or having teachers adhere to Hindu morals? I mean there are more Muslims in the world than Christians and Hinduism is older than all current religions. Or maybe we have everyone wear traditional garb of the Ultra Orthodox Hasidic Jews?

Wasn’t this country founded on the freedom to practice your own religion, not force TulaneFan’s religious beliefs on me?

Also, religion and morals are different things. Burning witches, crusades, inquisitions, jihads, etc., etc., etc., have been in the name of religion. But weren’t very moral.

How about we just teach our children to be decent people.

January 22, 1973. Remember the date well. The collapse of civility and respect for life died on that day. The country went downhill from there.

Suntiger, you advocated teaching our children to be decent people. The problem is, who defines what decency is?
