True. But I'm not sure if places like the northeast build to our standards though. We have to take that into account out here.

A 4.5 quake on the west coast feels different than it does on the east coast. It's not because they're used to quakes out west and have seen much. much more powerful quakes, it's because of the bedrock and the structure deep down.

The eastern US has a larger, harder, more brittle layer of bedrock than the west coast. It'd take me forever to try to explain it, but here's a link to lay out the basics:

I don't know what's causing them. But I bet a rich bastard will tell us we need to give them money in order to fix the problem though. It'll probably be attached to the climate change drama.
