Progressive Jews are Progs first, Jews about tenth . They are Of the Jewish Culture but they are not following any particular religious doctrine. Much like I am a “ Cultural “ Catholic but not in fact a Catholic.
This is about Progressive culture, not Jewish culture. Why Jews dominate the entertainment industry ( including cousins in my own family) is a different question.

A recent National Enquirer report linked Travolta to a massage therapist they called Edward, who runs a business called “Man 2 Man Massage,” a service Edward says consists of “a roving gang of unlicensed massage therapists.”
He told the tabloid that he arranged rubdowns for Travolta and another actor. The tabloid withheld Edward’s full identity, and states that reps for both actors “vehemently denied” the claims.
Travolta, who is married to actress Kelly Preston, has been dogged by accusations of sexual misconduct with massage therapists. In 2012, two unnamed accusers sued the “Saturday Night Fever” legend using the name John Doe. One of the accusers sued him for $2 million. A third masseur, Fabian Zanzi, later sued. All three accusers eventually dropped their cases.

I'll try to find the info in question, but a conservative (maybe Orthodox?) Jewish writer connects a lot of progressive thought/gestalt with a particular Jewish cult from the past - I want to say Sabbateanism.

Well, not beneath, but excommunicable. Until the Reformation and onwards, Christians were forbidden from charging interest on loans, among other things. So, naturally, the higher/aristocratic class of Europe used a group of people not forbidden to engage in usury to do their finance. This also allowed them to 'scapegoat' certain problems on to the Jewish clerical class that was present almost everywhere.

All religions have these types of members/followers. We have plenty in the U.S. that call themselves Christians, but they haven't so much as opened a Bible or prayed since they were kids or teenagers.
